Sesame Street Holiday Double Feature: Elmo's Christmas Countdown / Christmas Eve on Sesame Street [DVD]

An annual tradition for me since 1984.
Yes, it's old. Yes, it's 4:3. Yes it's blurry. But it feels the way Christmas felt to me as a four year old, the first time I saw it. At the age of 37, I have watched this special annually ever since. Christmas for me simply isn't complete without it. There is an indelible magic and ephemeral charm intrinsic to old school Muppets and Children's Television Workshop performances, and this might be the most concentrated spark of childhood wonder and magic that still survives to this day. At least for those of us who grew up with it.Am I biased? Absolutely. In the best possible way. Merry Christmas, Big Bird et al.

LOVE IT!!!
This DVD arrived and plays in my Blu Ray as expected. The video and audio is as expected from a "70's" show. It hasn't been remastered but is clear. I've watched this since I was a kid and watched on online for years before I purchased it. I highly recommend this! I don't have children ( yet ) but will watch it every year with them when the time comes. It can be "dramatic" at times but I think it was designed for kids and adults a like. I was saddened to read the negative reviews about this. You where kids once and probably loved it and turned out a fine upstanding member of society watching Sesame Street. I love it and will strongly recommend this to kids and adults!!! Disney movies and cartoons are "dramatic at times and sometimes show kids life isn't always perfect and I believe this show was doing the same thing with " Santa Clause and the Magic that comes with Christmas".

Good Old Fashioned Sesame Street in its better days...
Wonderful Christmas DVD with the old Sesame Street cast including Mr. Hooper... Songs are marvelous and best of all, NO ELMO!!!Yay! Reminds me of the good old days....Ernie, Burt, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, The Count, Oscar the Grouch are all here as well as Bob, David, Maria (no Luis though), Susan, Gordon, Linda, Olivia are all here and we just love it! Plot summary, amidst songs and skating Oscar poses the question to Big Bird that if he can't figure out how Santa gets through the skinny chimneys, no one will get gifts which turns Big Bird into a nervous wreck trying to find out how it all happens...In the end, all is well folks; don't worry....Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah, Mr. Hooper! (something that Bob says to Mr. Hooper in the show) back when it was ok to say both!

Vintage Sesame Street
This is Sesame Street the way it should be. Cookie Monster eats cookies! I bought this for my two year old granddaughter who is obsessed with Elmo. We weren't sure if she would like it as Elmo was not around in 1978 when it was originally filmed. However, she loved seeing Kermit (she only knows him from the Muppets as he's no longer a part of Sesame Street). Her mom and dad enjoyed seeing it again as much if not more than she did. They used to show this on my local PBS affiliate every Christmas until the late 1990's, so my children have fond memories of watching it when they were little. We all loved watching Bert and Ernie's twist on The Gift of the Magi costarring Mr. Hooper from Hooper's Store, Big Bird's hunt for answers as to how Santa fits down the chimney, Oscar decorating his trash can, and, of course, Super Grover! The music is wonderful as are the glimpses of younger versions of the cast members and hearing the late great Jim Hensen's voice as Ernie and Kermit. Well worth purchasing this one.

The BEST Christmas movie for families.
This video is so wonderful. It brings back a more innocent time before Sesame Street was in competition with 80 bazillion other kids' shows, and things were calmer and more magical. I guarantee you'll love this movie. Our family watches it every year, but we no longer have a VCR, so I was super happy to find it on DVD. Thanks!

Better for teens than preschoolers
I don't really understand why Sesame Street is now producing videos that use sarcasm as its primary form of humor. It seems to aim to entertain parents more than educate preschoolers. In addition to sarcasm, outright rudeness, and jokes no preschooler would understand, this video even includes phrases that almost need to be bleeped out. But the character reminds that "this is family programming," so that makes it ok to use suggestive language, right? Not in my opinion. This would probably be an entertaining movie for teens, though. I don't recommend it for young kids.

A blast from the past!
This makes me so happy to see! I hope that anybody growing up in the late 80s or early 90s remembers this special. If you do, it is exactly as cute and sweet as you remember. If you are too young to remember this special, this video will likely seem dated and not true to what Sesame Street is today. All the regular characters are there, but the special is more like a short movie than it is like an episode of Sesame Street. It's still enjoyable though. . . probably more for the inner-child of the parents than for the actual children though.

A classic Christmas tale for the whole family
Christmas Eve on Sesame Street is one of my absolute favorite family Christmas movies. The quality is wonderful and is much better than the VHS I recorded it on about 35 years ago. Gave it 4 stars because Elmo's Christmas Countdown can be skipped...couldn't even hold my toddler's attention for 5 minutes.

A story about friends family and love. Stars many of the original cast including Mister ...
A gentle classic that far outshines many of the new Christmas movies. Oscar the Grouch convinces Big Bird that Santa might not fit down the chimney on Xmas Eve and the Big yellow one enlists the help of his friends to find out how Santa does it. A story about friends family and love. Stars many of the original cast including Mister Hooper.

Wonderful- great for kids and adults!
I remember watching this as a kid, so I was really pleased to see that I was able to find it on DVD! My son loves it, and it’s hilarious to see the older fashions- it was filmed in the 80’s :)
