Great HT for the price.
This is one hell of a radio for the price. Audio is decent, battery life is really good, and the antenna is way better than expected. If I had to list some faults; 1) the scan list feature doesn't allow you to scan through both list one and two at the same time, you have to choose one or the other. 2) It isn't clear how the DTMF features should be used, but that could just be because I'm not familiar with it.

Fantastic HT, Especially for the price!
This is a fantastic little HT to use as a back up to your Kenwood, Yesu, or ICOM HT, or even to use as your “daily driver”. It’s not as intuitive, and I would’ve liked, and you really have to read the manual (RT FM), but once you get the hang of it, it’s a great radio, and mine is never let me down. The image I included I took myself in my product photography Light Box, With the original packaging.

Feature Rich , quality dual band ( VHF & UHF ) portable two-way Radio
The UV-K5 dual band portable radio has plenty of features and is available in multiple models for the US, EU and general VHF-UHF markets. There are so many features there is not enough room to even try to mention them all. However, the very competitively priced dual band radio should meet all of the Amateur Radio ( Ham) requirements , and with all of the selectable features, should work well in the commercial and unlicensed markets! 200 channels, NOAA weather band, FM radio band, aircraft AM bands are all also covered by the UV-K5. There are 10 function buttons, and 51 user selectable feature menu buttons.I have enclosed a few pictures of power and spectrum tests, however other than the UHF output power, all of the performance specs were quite good. VHF output was measured at over 4W, however all I could get out of the UHF was about 3W. Receiver sensitivity on the " specified bands" met or exceeded the -123 dbm specification! Output spectrum was very clean ! ( see pix of one of the tests ). The AM aircraft band audio was not up to my expectations. Overall quality of the aircraft AM audio was somewhat distorted! My scanners do a much better job ! ( but that's just another added feature and not really its claim to fame)Overall workmanship, quality, and capabilities of the UV-5K met or exceeded ( except for the UHV output power) all of my expectations for all of the specified RX/TX bands.Since this radio has 200 channels and many setup features, if you going to set up many channels, I would highly recommend the programming software offered on the manufacture's website! I'm told that there will also be open-source programming SW for the UV-5K available soon !Teardown pictures and various certifications and manuals are also available!

Stop, this is the low cost radio you want!
This just kills the BaoFengs. It suppresses the harmonics and out performs the BaoFengs. I have 12 BaoFengs and now two of these.

High quality radio with lots of features
This HT feels very well made. The manual supplied is in full English, and details all functions and settings clearly. Unlike its competitors, this radio allows for custom firmware that can be found on various sites. It also is able to save channels on FM, and includes a CTCSS/DCS tone scanner.

Trash
Sorry, I had 2 of these that failed on it's input side where you cannot program it from a PC. The "experts" on the Facebook pages claimed it was the programming cable, it was not. A total of 5 hours wasted on experimenting with rolled back drivers and new programming cables did nothing. Nice display though. Buy a known brand of radio that requires a simple programming cable/USB interface instead of this trash.
