The Miracles of Jesus: The Brick Bible for Kids

Oh, Moses, Moses!
The detailed Biblical scenes created out of LEGO pieces by author Brendan Powell Smith, tell these complex stories in a surprisingly accessible way. That format – using a kid-friendly, feel-good toy – helps readers reappreciate tales that are more than 5000 years old. Most of us already know the story of baby Moses. We’ve seen it in the movies, in art and popular culture; heard it in services and church school. We’ve read the Bible stories. We know this guy and the arc of his life. Yet, that familiarity is reimagined by Smith in the same way that Jesus’ life was dramatically retold by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in the rock musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. It’s a stunning achievement – the originality and freshness of Smith’s LEGO vision (the company does not sponsor, authorize or endorse Smith’s books) continues to amaze and delight me. I own all of his Brick Bible for Kids books, Revolution, Assassination, and his massive tome, The Brick Bible: The Complete Set. Reading (his text is equally strong) and seeing his work never gets old. The Brick Bible for Kids line is obviously appropriate for kids, but adult connoisseurs of his work will enjoy these vignette gems, too.

Cute idea, but one run on story.
We have the large hard covered bible book from the same author. My kids like this book, but like the other brick Bible book better. My guess is it's one continuous story rather than broken up into different stories.

Sexual stories portrayed parents beware
Seemed little too detailed for small children

Stalwart Christian loves this series!
My son is an AVID Lego fan, and since we try to read scriptures together as a family, I really wanted to find some kid-friendly way to help teach him more about the Bible. We had the original six Brick Bible stories and loved them. I wanted to purchase this one for him for a Christmas present but was really conflicted based on all the negative reviews. Finally I decided to go for it, thinking I would throw it away if it did indeed have inappropriate content or misleading portrayals of the Savior's life. I read through it, and I can honestly say I don't have any idea what the other reviewers are talking about. Granted the author is admittedly not Christian. However, I believe he has good intentions of believing that everyone should learn about what is truly in the Bible. This is a great depiction for kids and definitely holds my son's interest (seven years old and we got it when he was six). The one reviewer mentioning sexual content may have been referring to the Brick Bible (not for kids). This story: The Miracles of Jesus The Brick Bible For Kids has absolutely no sexual content whatsoever. There were no carefully worded phrases slipped in to make you question your testimony of Jesus Christ. It was simply a child-friendly rendition of stories from the gospels. Great book for kids!
