Jet: Frank Whittle and the Invention of the Jet Engine

Fascinating book!

I am an engineer and inventor dealing with turbines so the book was good for me as it contains lots of technical detail for the enthusiast.

A true UK hero and a very interesting read

Must be good, I bought it and my husband bought it with the original cover!

This book is mainly about Whittle's creation of the company Power Jets and his struggles against The Powers that Be to develop his engine, not to mention the disingenuous conduct of companies like - I'm sorry to say - Rover. It does not have a lot of technical detail about the jet engine - I would have liked more, even though my understanding is pretty limited. Nor is it a biography of Whittle. It is a testimony to an individual genius who had a great idea, that he knew from the start would work, and that he saw through to the end.The appendices about the publication of Whittle's early patents in Germany are revealing.

This book was a present and blieve the owner was very happy with the gift. I had no problems with the purchase.

The book was a perfect gift for somebody that i worked with that was retiring, and something that he was interested in.
