Wisdom and guidance delivered in abundance!!
A good easy read this one - McConaughey gives informative insight into the Law of Attraction and the way strange paths presented to us in life (might not seem so at the time) can ultimately lead to us attracting big breaks in life, or as he likes call it."Catching Greenlights."McConaughey is a philosophical man, who is also a great poet. There are some powerful poems included in this book that will have you deep thinking on a number of different aspects. He has a profound sense of empathy and an intense and fearless work ethic about him, which shines through in his writing. He notices 'the signs' in his day and gives intriguing information on his ways of processing them.He is very much a family man and is pretty much living the dream these days. An admirable, straight talking, adventureos and mindful guy who likes to keep going on the go. The word stagnation is not in his vocabulary .He is discerning when it comes to work and this of course proved to be pivotal with his success throughout the years of his acting career, which ultimately led to the pinnacle recognition of his chosen profession when he became an oscar winning actor in 2014 for his remarkable performance in Dallas Buyer's Club.I definitely reccomend this one for people who feel like their big break is never coming and who are trying to make logic of it all as they hit bumps in the road.I suppose what I took from the book was; it all comes down to putting out the vibes of gratitude, the virtue of practicing patience with kindness and being ballsy enough to take more risks when they present themselves.

Greenlights: A detailed and raw review of his own conciousness
Breaking down his fifty years of experience, Matthew McConaughey takes the reader on his own journey of self discovery as he navigates the obstacles on the road called life. Greenlights is a detailed and raw review of his own conciousness as he reclaims his past writings and through innerthoughts of the path we all find ourselves on.I personally enjoyed his well written stories, through honesty, trials, comedic timing and pure craftsmanship to succeed, and to view what we too experience in our lifetime as more than what brings us down and holds us back, but to see the Greenlights that make our time here on earth worth the weight in gold.

Great read
Quite a short book but filled with details, feelings and more. He covers his personal life and how it affected him and how he reset (quite a few times), and no doubt much of his reset was helped by having a bit of money even if says skint at point (doesn't use the word skint ha). But it's still a good read, even being open about how much paid for many of his films.

Matthew McConaughey seems to be a great storyteller and a very bad preacher.
Matthew McConaughey seems to be a great storyteller and a very bad preacher. So if you stick to the part of the book that is actually written, you'll get a nice, Hollywood story, that is entertaining to read and gives a few insights into his life. However, all the notes or bumper stickers are just a cheap coaching lessons that no one really needs. I like the USA, southern vibe that McConaughey has going on in his writing. It fits his greatest movie roles pretty nicely, and is an enjoyable read. The problem is he's setting us up for the same american movies scenario... some call it "american dream" or basically a quote that my friend often use "if you really gonna put your mind to it, it will work". So despite that the book is well written, and the author is a likeable character, the privilage and egocentrism is crawiling back the further you go in the book. I don't think it's a book about him per se, it’s more a story told from a movie director's perspective, a salable story. The insights are shallow preachings about life, the greenlights methaphore is just the "america dream" in different words, and emotions... are almost absent. Talking about abusive childhood as a motivational story that builds you the men you are, talking about marriage as this thing he needs to deal with. Where are other people, their yeses and nos, their feelings... and where is Matthew? But don't get me wrong, I really liked the book, if he wrote it himself, he is a talented writer. I just think he's a terrible preacher, with very shallow insights into things, very simple philosophies that are sold in cheap sentences. This part of his writing I am not fond of. I feel like this is more a story he needs to tell himself to feel safe and happy and not the story that actually happened to him. But in the end, maybe it's just cultural differences, we Europeans like everything dark and deep, maybe it's just how it is when you're a happy, privileged person in the USA. Maybe even the worst stories (childhood abuse) are easier to cope with in the country of Texan sun and Hollywood stars. Anyways, a pleasure to read.

One of the best memoirs I’ve read so far.
I listened to the audiobook while reading along and it is one of the best I’ve listened to. He really put his heart and soul into it. He used different accents for many of the people in the book and made it come alive. It was heartwarming and hilarious. Highly recommend it!

This is one of those books that’ll just change the way you look at everything in your life. It’s motivating, yet also comforting in the sense that it isn’t preaching to you any paths to success.McConaughey’s got to be one of the most naturally talented and most poetic story tellers of our time and it’s an absolute joy to read his memoir. 10/10
