The Encyclopedia of Oil Techniques: A unique visual directory of oil painting techniques, with guidance on how to use them

If you are new (or very rusty) to oil painting this is a very informative and easy to read book and one you can dip in and out of.

Christmas gift for my daughter. Had a flick through and seems to be very comprehensive. Will be a great resource for her.

Very good book with good illustrations. This was in bear new condition as it was ex-library. I always feel slightly when I get an ex-library book in such good condition as I am sure many of them haven’t ever been read.

Didn't enjoy this for some reason - too pithy probably - there are better art books on the market

I have a whole library on art and this is by far the best on oil painting techniques for the practitioner.

Great for beginners and a good resource for seasoned artists. I think why I liked it so much is that there are visual examples for different techniques. I had no idea what stumbling actually looked like until I saw this book. Always heard of it but most art technique book have no visuals so it was nice to see it in here

Almost every book on the techniques and tools for oil painting has a handful of naysayers decrying the lack of this aspect or that. It's unlikely you'll find a book that covers such a comprehensive subject that has thought of all the needs of its readers. What this book does—what it did for me, a person new to oil painting—was prompt inspiration and fill my thoughts with endless ideas on approaching the canvas. And to my way of thinking, if a book moves a person to want to create, then it has succeeded. A fine book.

I love this book on oil painting! It covers so many techniques and is beautifully illustrated with updated examples from artists I have admired for a long time, and many I did not know, but now follow. The text is clear, concise and informative and has provided me with plenty of ideas and much inspiration. I had found this book in the library and just wanted to keep it by my side, so I had to buy it!
