Really 3 1/2- but warrants a 3 as I don't have the option of including the half.
I am a huge Harry Potter fan! I went to see this film 3 times- once by myself on the morning it came out, and twice with friends (different ones each time). Overall, it's good- but it could and should have been amazing. There are pinnacle moments, which I think a lot of people are conflicting over. So here's my view of those bits (it's not in chronological order just from what I remember first!).1) The dance between Harry and Hermoine. I found it interesting to hear that this was the favourite part of both the director David Yates and Emma watson. I absolutely hated this scene. And all of my peers who I spoke to ( I'm in in my early 20s)disliked it too. There seemed to be some sort of sexual tension between the two characters, well at least it seemed that Daniel Radcliffe acted in a way in which he tried to woo Emma's character. Especially after Ron leaving- it shouldn't of happened. This just didn't add up for me, and I found this wierd in all three sittings of the film. The song was good though. I am a pro Ron and Hermoine as a couple fan, so this scene did not work at all for me.2) Leading on smoothly, the lack of chemistry between Ron and Hermoine, which was reinforced in a lot of the big scenes( I will discuss subsequently). Firstly, you had Ron looking at Hermoine sheepishly a couple of times. But there was nothing from her to him. The bit in the book when he leaves is amazing, I was so tense when reading it. Here Emma doesn't do a good job. Or maybe it's the direction their given. Rupert does well here. But people are so use to Ron being comic relief, that initially in the cinema in the build up to this- people are laughing, which they shouldn't be. It's a serious and tense moment- Ron is leaving; the trio is being broken.3) When Hermoine's tortured. She does well, could have done better. But, I'm sorry- Ron and Harry should have been more devestated like how it is in the book. For Ron this is the woman he loves. And for Harry, Hermoine is like his sister (not the woman he secretly wants to seduce!)4)When Ron returns- when he attempts to destroy the horcux, and he sees the beautiful and evil versions of Harry and Hermoine kissing- after he stabs it with the sword of gryffindor- he is suppose to be devestated- not making some stupid joke about how many horcruxes there are left to find and destroy ( I think it was some thing like, "just think, only x horcruxes left to go". I hated this bit- they downplayed it so much, Ron's suppose to cry- and Harry is suppose to say something like- "it was always you, I thought you knew. She's always been like a sister to me and the feeling is reciprocal from her too" (remember I am paraphrasing this from my memory of the book, so it may not be 100% accurate). I loved this bit in the book- where you really get a true sense of Ron's love for Hermoine. By them not including it- it reduced the significance of this scene and all three of their relationship. I didn't highlight just how much Ron had been tormented. This scene was suppose to make Rupert Grint as an actor shine, and it really is a shame that it wasn't included properly. The rest of it when he sees hermoine again is okay I suppose, but not as amazing due to the aforementioned comments. Those were my biggest cringeworthy moments of the film. However, the bits which I thought were done very well in order!1) The bit at the ministry- Ron in partciular was fab! Additonally, the actors they got to portray the ministry people did so well pretending to be the Harry, Ron and Hermoine. Definite highlight was the chase- Runcus was scary, and they all did fab- in particular Ron as he's running into fireplace to disaparate, and Hermoine when she is trying to heal Ron after he's splinched.2) The opening is very strong. Hermoine was brill when she obliviates her parent's memory of her and walks away with nothing from her past except the small but magically enlarged bag- it really sets the scene. Plus,I love the part in the Malfoy Manor. Snape and Bellatrix for me are always a joy to watch- they do their characters such justice- so even though they are evil, I love them!. The broken Lucius Malfoy is a joy to watch- especially when he says, ' my Lord'. I also find the whole Malfoys really interesting and I think all the actors play their part with convition.3) I love the Weasleys- especially their parents who do fantasttic. You really get a sense of how difficult it must be to be one of the biggest blood traitor family, as well as having most of their family so inlvoved. They're great to watch. I wish they included the bit at the minsitry with Arthur Weasley speaking to his son Ron, who is in disguise, when Ron says," Thanks dad!" love that bit in the book!4) Of course Dobby is great. very funny.5) Finally all of the different Harry potters is a good scene.Hopes for the final film. Please do not hold back on the Ron and Hermoine love- due to the lack of chemistry in this film, I am really curious to see how that will be portrayed.I think I will try to wait till Christmas, when i believe the final part will be released on dvd to capitalise on the Christmas sales. However, I am a fan, and probably would like to own it sooner to watch it again before watching the final film. So it's more likely the latter will happen. In conclusion, it's one's interpretation- like with Romeo and Juliet, there are always going to be preferred versions due to the director's take (I preferred Bazlurhamn's- the music's fantastic- really sets the film). I don't agree with all of Yate's decisions, but I love the books so the films are great for any fan, unless the issues discussed above annoy you too much. For me I tried to find the things I liked, but there are things undoubtedly which I hated but that's just life. I wonder whether anyone will attempt to remake HP films 50 years down the line?

Flawless !
I have read many reviews. I like to get the opnion of other people, even when I have my own firm opinion. I was highly dissapointed at the many people who are unhappy with this film. Whether it be for recreational reasons compared to the book or the fact that they think the film being split into two parts is wrong, do not listen. Of course, those people are entitle to an opinion, as am I.But here is what I think :Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a flawless, fast paced, spectacular movie. It was, for me, the best film of 2010. The visual effects were amazing, for both creatures and spells. The soundtrack played throughout the film is a work of genius and perfectly sets the mood for this scary, action packed, amusing, heart warming, heart breaking, fantasy movie, packed to the brim with magic and wonder.I was highly surprised and delighted when I received this product earlier than scheduled. I was not expecting it's arrival and found myself flooded with excitement. I immeadiately watched the movie, and all of the extra features, and enjoyed every moment of it. I then watched the movie twice the next day. It is one of those movies that gets better when you watch it and, personally, I find it does not get boring. It is just as good, and better in some ways, than the other Harry Potter movies which I love. This movie lives up to the plot of the book, and more. As with all the movies, scenes have been added to add effect and convey emotion that is too difficult to show otherwise. I found these extra scenes spectacular, adding more emotion the potion that is this amazing work of art. EVen the jokes and dialogue lived up to the book, like George's "Holey" joke. The movie is just as fast paced and exciting as the book, and keeps you wanting to watch more. The extra features of this movie were great. Placing the second disk into the DVD player I wondered how good they were going to be, as throughout the series, the depth of extra features has changed. I was delighted with what I found. An array of deleted scenes which I enjoyed watching just as much as the movie, added to explanation and depth of the story, to the people who may not have read the book. Interviews with the cast and showing the friendships between them all were great to watch and I was very interested and enveloped while watching how some scenes were filmed, like "The Seven Potters Scene", "The sky Battle Scene" and "Godric's Hollow". Overall, I would say the best extra features of any Harry Potter DVD to date.Overall, this is definately worth buying. I am an enormous Harry Potter fan and always have been ( always will be). The plot is perfectly followed and ends with a nice cliffhanger, making you want more. While I could have watched the second part easily, I understand that it would easily take another movie of two and a half hours, to finish this amazing franchise. I really, highly recomend this...one of my favourite purchases in a while, out of the many Harry Potter things I buy.
