Q: Will this product work on a carpet, or do I need to place it on a table or a hard floor?

It would probably depend on the pile of your carpet. The first time I used this mat, I didn't have a table to put it on and put together a 2000 piece puzzle on the floor on an almost commercial-type low pile carpet. I currently am putting together another 2000 piece puzzle on the mat on a piece of plywood on top of a card table because it hurt my back to bend over it on the floor. I don't think it would work well on a very thick or shaggy carpet.

Q: Is this a new style and is it worth trusting at this price?

The mat is very flat and completely different from the inferior pads I bought before. It is very cost effective and I believe it will last a long time.

Q: is it just for the completed portion or can you roll up the loose pieces as well?

Loose peices seem to stick to it like glue
