Living Bright: Fashioning Colourful Interiors

I hummed and harred for a long time before sending for this book, as I have bought far too many interior design books over the years, and far too many have turned out to be useless- pretty coffee table books only. This book, by contrast is terrific! I have to say, firstly, that it may not be your style, so all this may not apply, but it is mine. I always loved Monsoon inits heyday and discovered that Matthew Williamson originally designed for them. Alas, I could never afford to buy from this own designer range. When Monsoon did interior items too, like cushions and bedding, even curtains, I loved those as well. It was of course, a sort of romantized Eastern look with a touch of exotic fantasy about it. I have also always loved the Brighton Pavillion and Sezencote house in Oxon for that similar feel. Like Williamson, I trained as a textile designer although not in his area of fashion design. I love the colours throughout this book, no shy or minimal beige or off white tones, here. Apart from the glorious pictures, the text is surprisingly good. He knows what he is talking about (a lot of design books are written by stylists rather than trained designers) and puts it clearly and precisely, no waffle here. The 20 questions he puts to clients are wonderful, and making a moodboard, yes, brilliant stuff. I found these fascinating as someone who has done so many, they are always a clear insight into someones ideas and way of working. One of the questions he asks, is what objects you own that you love. Well, one of them turned out to be a mirrored box with drawers, covered in a colourful parrot design, and yes, bought from his Design at Debenhams range. You don't need to be a trained designer to use this book, anyone can use the knowledge, it is so very helpful. I love his style and sensce of colour and balance, this would be a great addition to anyone library, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Full of beautiful, inspiring images. Great for people that enjoy decorating with vivid colours and character. In it, Matthew answers key questions about interior design. Really enjoying it!

Ich habe es noch nicht ganz gelesen, aber allein die herrlichen Bilder der traumhaften farbenfrohen Räume haben für mich den Kauf des Buches lohnenswert gemacht. Wer Opulenz, Farbenfreude, Fantasie, Maximalismus mag, dem wird das Buch bestimmt so gut gefallen wie mir.
