Dante: Chicago Ruthless, Book 1

Dark and so good!
❤️📖 This is the first book in the Chicago Ruthless series 📖❤️ I don't read to many dark mafia books, but Ms Kincaid knows her way. This book was a perfect start.Dante is a dark character, who obviosly doesn't believe in love, was raised by crueal father, but he was able to protect something ,,good or positive,, in side him thanks his brother Lorenzo and his best friend Max. And his sister Joey had a special place in his eart altought he never trully showed her because his main priority was to protected her.Kat was a hell strong heroin, she survived something horrible in her past and was fighting every day to wake up and go on, only she had to pay now for her brother mistakes and so she ends with Dante. They both dance around not understanding the chemistry and feelings. The passion oh man 🥵🔥 .I loved the plot and the twists, when Kat decided to leave and protect her most important ,,thing,, and then she was caught and this part was the best, when they both had to think about their feelings and what to trust and believe, but ones they passed these all insecurieties they became a hell pair ready to rule!I already read Joey's story and it was great as the first book and Lorenzo is next!!

A story with secrets and twists to discover.
Dante and Kat are great! Their journey is twisted and a bit dark, but Kat is strong and she won’t bow down to Dante just because of who he is. That makes her more attractive to Dante and he’s not willing to walk away from her or to let her go.Good story and great characters. Looking forward to read more in the series.

Ok read
Was an okay read for me. The storytelling could have been a bit smoother, and some drama unnecessary, specially when she wanted to escape. But overall, good mafia romance.

I really loved this one!
Great development of the characters without drawing out the story. One of the best books I've read this year and I've read about 100 so far. I actually took a break from starting a new one to reread this one. Now I'm going to reread Lorenzo.

Kidnapped
-kidnapped-enemies to lovers-mafia-Accidental pregnancyThis book had a slow beginning, but once it gained momentum, it kept me engaged and entertained. I must say that Dante was portrayed as a ruthless character, but there were hints that suggested otherwise, especially considering his father's actions towards his mother and brother, and his reactions to those events. Kat, on the other hand, was a strong woman who had been betrayed by the person who should have protected her, yet she refused to let this betrayal define her. She had a lot to overcome, but she faced her challenges head-on without backing down. I appreciated the portrayal of the bond between brothers and best friends in this book. It made the male characters more relatable and well-rounded, as opposed to the cold and distant personas often seen in mafia-themed stories. However, there were a few aspects that I found less realistic. The way in which the pregnancy occurred, for instance, seemed unlikely given Kat's profession as a nurse. Additionally, Dante's lack of assertiveness towards his father was somewhat disappointing. As the head of the mafia, it would have been more satisfying to see him stand up to his father and demand respect.Overall, I enjoyed the book and found it to be an engaging read. While there were a few areas that could have been improved, they did not significantly detract from my enjoyment of the story.

I think the tropes are wrong for this stellar story
Is this an Enemies to Lovers romance? Only for the first chapter. And really most of it was Kat and Maximo instead of Kat and Dante. Is this "Dark Mafia" romance? Dante is ruthless. He, Maximo, and Lorenzo swiftly and brutally dish out the punishments. Kat's attack (written as flashback) is trigger warning worthy. But, I consider Dark Romance to mean the MMC(s) stalk, kidnap, threaten, bullies, or dubcon the FMC. That isn't this book. The dark parts of Dante's and Kat's relationship isn't as dark as other stories. Even though he's a mafia boss who has left "a trail of bodies in our wake that would rival the bubonic plague", you still see his humanity. That being said. I read this story in KU, bought the book, bought and read Lorenzo's book, then read Dante two more times. I've preordered Keres. That's how much I love this book. The big reason I love this book so much is chapter 38... It's written in Dante's POV and it deals with Kat's attack. It's triggering, it's raw, and it's heartbreaking. "If I'm asking her to bare her soul to me, I at least owe her the courtesy of looking her in the eye while I do it." Dante was stellar. He helped her talk through it. He helped her find her strength by showing his vulnerability. He helped her face her demons. I not only cried for Kat but I cried for myself. That being said - Chap 38 was no surprise. He does start their relationship off by threatening to give her to his men if she wasn't useful. (Given what you suspect of Kat at this point of the story, it's cruel). But, once he realized what happened, he backs off saying it again. When there were issues with their first sexual encounter, he adjusted without question or comment. Their conversation afterwards was gentle and inciteful. He asks her if he could help work out her demons. When they do work on her demons, he thinks through what she needs, gives it to her, and makes sure that she knows and consents to what they are doing.I loved Dante's progression from fascination to love.Beware - Chapter 39. It's about "giving the criminal the same punishment as the crime". It pushes boundaries.Kat - The story is centered around her attack (which isn't as simple as it seems). Her life does a 180 after the attack and that's where we find her. She's just existing. Her spunk does come out in her first meeting with Dante and Maximo. She keeps showing spunk and comes out of her shell the longer she sticks around. I wished they that there were more scenes of her being "doc". They were good scenes and it helped her bond with the crew. Overall though, I loved her progression from existing to surviving and thriving.Minor points that detracted from the story:I wished Dante would have offered up therapy to help Kat. He saw what she was going through. It would have been a nice touch.I never understood why Dante wanted to wait to tell Kat about Nicci. I didn't understand his reasoning on that. The longer he waited, the worse the situation got. What trope would I use? The "brilliantly written mafia romance" trope. :)

Quente e empolgante

Dante’s inferno burns for Kat
A fantastic start to this series. Although ruthless Dante is a great MC. His upbringing has made him feared and fierce but somehow Kat sees through all that. Their meeting is not hearts and flowers but their passion is undeniable and hot. A great story with great sibling dynamics. Look forward to Joeys and Maximos book. Kat is a strong, intelligent and fierce FMC that brings Dante to his knees. Amazing, amazing steamy book.
