Shadow of the Titanic: The Extraordinary Stories of Those Who Survived

Shadows of sadness, grief, and loss.
This is an excellent work by author Andrew Wilson. These stories are well researched and expose the reader to the emotions, despair, breakdowns, and sometimes deaths of the survivors. The sinking of the RMS Titanic left no survivor unaffected or undamaged to some degree.

Awesome Read!
The author has written an awesome book. You almost think, feel and see everything the survivors did. I've watched documentaries and they and the book align.

Fascinating rest-of-the-story reading
Always wondered what happened to the few people who managed to survive the Titanic’s sinking. Some stories inspiring, many heartbreaking. Like the ship, their lives broke in two, a “before” and an “after” that for many, lasted the rest of their lives. A bit repetitive, but worth the read.

EXCELLENT TITANIC STORY
Who would have thought there was so much more to the story but AW did a stupendous job of bringing more conclusion to a great and tragic historical event. The lives that survived in many ways were almost as tragic as the major event itself. The movie TITANIC of recent day will have so much more meaning for me!

This was Survival?
Her name was Millvina. A name to remember. She died in 2009 and was ninety-seven years of age. She was the last survivor of the Titanic. Amazing. As like other people, I have an interest in the story of the Titanic. I do not know why it attracts my spirit, but it does. Maybe it is the terrible disaster of this historical event and the loss of so many lives which is still so difficult to accept and comprehend. The sorrow I can feel when I think of the tragedy will always be felt, I guess. I cannot imagine what every single person on that ship must have felt. So many different people with so many different lives and feelings. Sometimes I even ask myself... "Where are they today?"Some years ago while taking a cruise, as I was looking out over the ocean into the mysterious dark vastness of the water, the Titanic came to mind and I could only shudder with a prayer for all those souls. Yes, it is hard to let the story go. And, this new angle of the story telling about the survivors holds my interest. I often wondered what the survivors lives were like afterward. How did they cope and manage to go on? What happened to their faith and belief system? Did they feel the guilt of being a survivor as many people do in tragic happenings? Were they able to go on with their lives, no doubt changed from the experience they suffered through? Were they able to feel happiness and be without stress for the rest of their lives? I am not sure where the author got all his information on the survivors of the Titanic, but it is an interesting read different from other books about the Titanic for sure. One does get enveloped in each survivors story. Some bad and some good. I do think that some of the survivors were badly misjudged as well. However, there is not one of us who could put our thoughts into the minds of each of those people aboard that ship that dreadful night, not even the author. No one will ever truly know and feel the horror of what those who perished and those who survived had to have felt...or see what they saw or hear what they heard; or how it affected the rest of the lives of those who survived. And what kind of survival was it?To not know all of that is a blessing for each one of us in this modern world. But, you read this book if you want to know at least something about those survivors. It is worth reading.

Didn’t hold my attention
This chapters were too long and with too much information about their lives thru the years , I honestly feel like it could have been edited a bit … I’m a voracious reader but I struggled to get thru this , took me much longer than it should have , it didn’t hold my interest like a few other books I have read about the Titanic disaster.

The After-Titanic Survivor Stories
I had no idea how much this book would affect my own perceptions about Titanic since I had watched many televised programs and even saw iMax movie about the remaining survivors in the 1990's until I finished reading this. I knew there had to be so more tragic reactions by those who were rescued, but the biographical and/or documented history has completely changed my views on this most epic shipwreck of all time, and my heart grieves for so many who didn't find the help or even support they had needed in time to stop this all from happening. I especially like Jack Thayer, and reading the good his life had was so wonderful, but then the end? No, my heart bleeds for him and all those who suffered, even the Duff Gordons, J. Ismay, and any others accused of wrongdoing in this chaotic and unprecedented tragedy. This book is well-balanced and doesn't try to rewrite those who had any responsibility in what happened, but it does show the reality of the times when it happened, and I'm glad to finally get "The Rest Of The Story" about so many I didn't even know about even with my sometimes infatuation with Titanic in general. I suggest any who are as history-minded as I am to get this book to gain a whole other understanding of how those who were survivors either moved forward or gave into joining those that were lost in the ocean in 1912.

very good book
Well-written, well-researched book. Now we know what the survivors feel or think even many years after the tragedy. Some of them could never become normal. And that is understandable. It is unfortunate that the some men who survived, were blamed for their survival. Anyway, that is history now. The book brings to light many unknown facts and I thank the author for that.
