The unit I received was not the SPA300 pictured, but the SPA460. The 460 appears to be more a more sophisticated version. Came with the cables pictured and a "manual" that was a narrow piece of paper 3" by 10", folded into 4 sections. The instructions were the usual poorly translated English. One "page" tells you to download the application then connect via Bluetooth. I checked and yes the 460 does show up in the Bluetooth listing on my phone.Connected up the 460 to a TV and powered up via USB. Got a "Smartphone Mirroring" display on the TV, except it had symbols for WiFi and Bluetooth.I setup my Android Smartphone for USB debugging and connected to the 460. Got a popup on the phone screen that I had to download an application to talk to the USB. http://paplink.cn/drongscreen.php. The popup was supposed to take you there, but it doesn't, just brings up the previous page you surfed. I tried getting the application by typing in the URL and got what appears to be a login screen in Chinese. Could not get past that.Searching around I found some comments about Drongscreen that it asks for a lot of permissions, bypasses the Google Play store so there is no guarantee it isn't malicious or spyware. So, do you trust a mysterious Chinese application on your Smartphone?Edit:Got it to work. It takes two things:1. Download and install "Drongscreen" APK. You can't find it on the manufacturers website, but if you do an internet search for "Drongscreen APK" you will get a link to a repository and can download it from there. It will be at a site called apkcombo.com. A mysterious Chinese APK from a mysterious repository that bypasses the Google Play Store? Welcome to the Wild West! Yeah, makes me feel warm and fuzzy too. So I ran it through some web based APK virus checkers and they claim it is clean. I crossed my fingers and installed it and maybe the CCP now has my contact list, but I never do anything financial with my phone. Ever. Use at your own risk.2. Enable Android Developer mode and enable "USB debugging". Search the internet on how do to that.Then execute Drongscreen and connect your USB debugging enabled phone and it should work. I wanted USB connection, so I have not tried to connect with Bluetooth.Now comes the power. You can power it with 5V via an included USB cable, or wire it into your car's 12V system. The 12V connecton has a red wire (ACC) and yellow wire (Battery). I took some current readings and it appears that the power is drawn through the yellow wire and I *think* the red wire is a simple sensor that tells the unit when you have started the engine. If both are not connected to 12V, the unit does not show anything on the screen. This appears to be a feature that prevents seeing the video unless the engine is running.The SPA460 unit itself will draw about 100mA through the yellow wire, and much more when your phone is plugged in (probably for charging the phone). I assume the battery connection is to power the USB socket for charging even when the engine is off. But I don't want it sucking 100mA on my battery all of the time, so I will be connecting both wires to the ACC instead of the battery.The resolution through the RCA connectors is not too bad, but there is some fuzziness. Maybe the HDMI provides a cleaner picture, but I am happy with the RCA capability and my head unit doesn't have HDMI. The drongscreen APK gives you several different resolution options. With the RCA connection there was very little difference.I am giving it 3/5 stars because it does work, but with a shady APK and a lot of work.
