Excellent Sequel to "Eleni"
This book serves as an excellent sequel to Eleni. For those of you have not read Eleni, you'd do yourself a favor to read that first to be able to add a lot of context (and enjoyment) when reading this book.On its own, Mr. Gage's detail and storytelling capability is what makes this work shine. That said, because of the level of detail, it almost compels you to read Eleni prior to reading this book. If not, this book does a good (but not great) job of sharing an immigrant boy's story of going from rags to relative riches. It embodies a sense of the overall immigrant experience in the first half of the twentieth century and goes head on into the 1960s. Perhaps more important is that it a Greek immigrant/Greek American's account of growing (up) in the United States.Mr. Gage's story is a classic story of an immigrant boy's transition into the "New World", facing his share of ups and downs. Despite his trials and tribulations he was able to achieve the "American Dream" which transcends class, race and socioeconomic status.Mind you that this book was originally published over twenty years ago; the copy sold is like a college course reader print out. That said, the picture quality in this paperback version as opposed to the original hardcover and original paperbacks are not quite as good (I've since purchased autographed used copies)

Classic Greek immigrant story
THis is a wonderful and evocative book about a greek family's immigration to the USA and their life in Massachusetts. If you liked 'My Family's Great Big Fat Greek Wedding", read this, it's the real deal on Greek immigrant life in America. ITs' by Nick Gage, so it's wonderfully written.

Worth the Read!
As engaging as Eleni and very relevant to today's culture clashes. Gage is a compelling writer and draws the reader into the lives of his family.
