I've turned to this book for inspiration many times over the years
I've read this book several times since it came out for inspiration. I just love the idea of an edible landscape. I only wish I lived in the Pacific Northwest like the author, so I could plant more of the same things. When I purchased my current property in Northern CA 24 years ago, I could grow most of what was in this book. Now with ever increasingly hot summers, some of these plants just won't survive the summer heat. We just had one week of record breaking 114F weather in September. So no loganberries, winterberry and other cold loving plants for me unfortunately. I haven't even needed to cover my citrus during the coldest part of winter these last couple years - my space is definitely heating up. So my advice is: know your zone and don't waste money trying to plant things that won't make it or won't produce well. Pay attention to how many chilling hours you have during this period of global warming. Sometimes you can dump bags of ice around trees and shrubs that need more chill hours, but that is a lot of work. I do have many edible trees, shrubs and ground covers. Not all are drought tolerant unfortunately, but I do get a lot of enjoyment from them, and I also attract a lot of wildlife to my garden. The neighbor kids love to sneak in and eat berries fresh off the vine, bush or ground. Just make sure you know what is invasive in your climate too before you plant. Wonderful book with wonderful ideas and illustrations. One of my favorite gardening books.

Amazing resource!
This is one of the most fantastic books I have thus far added to my permaculture library. Beautiful photos, stellar information, and buckets of inspiration! As a sustainably-minded land owning family just in the first stages of our permaculture/forest garden designing, this book is immensely helpful in selecting the fruit plants that will provide for us for years (and lifetimes!) to come! The beginning of the book is a lovely treatise on design, and the rest of the book offers a beautiful description of each plant, including the plant's USDA Cold Hardiness Zones and AHS Heat Zones, in addition to information regarding the general hardiness of the plants, what care (if any) they might require and whether or not this care is 'by personal preference' or 'necessary to the survival/thriving of the plant,' and what types of soil and conditions the plants can withstand. The flavors of the fruits are also described and rated - a helpful feature for those of us who have not sampled all of the varieties contained therein - in addition to the yield one might expect per plant. The design features of each fruit plant are discussed as well, including any striking design elements of a particular plant, such as bright fall foliage and flower color. Also are listed the different varieties of each fruit plant, some of which are adapted to wider or smaller climate ranges - very helpful for the harsh, high mountain region in which my family resides. I have nothing but praise to give for this book - I have already ordered several of his other books to add to my library!

Reich always provides great info
I have a couple of Lee Reich's books. This one is a great starting point for someone new the idea of working edible plants into the landscaping. I also greatly recommend his book "Uncommon Fruits for Every Garden" it's one of my favorites.

BEST book on this topic - Informative and beautiful
Great concept, very informative, gorgeous book. Details different types of fruit, their strengths and growing potential, and design ideas to pull things together and make it look good.I'm updating this review after having read many other books on the same topic. This one is by far the best because of its level of detail on specific plants. It includes design guidelines and ideas, but is also more specific on particular plants and their needs to allow the reader to select wisely for their particular climate.

Exactly as described
Came on time and exactly as described, which is not the case with all sellers. The packaging was a little bit of a pain to get into, but it keeps the book in excellent condition during its travels thru the system. I will continue to buy from bellwether books.

A fresh surprise!
What a wonderful book to read! He not only covers the basics of how to integrate fruits into the landscape, but also has a specific information about each plant. He list two different heat/cold zone maps and his own index about how difficult a given plant is to grow. I have read two of his other books and was worried that this would just be a remix of them, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was written and the new information he gives. It is a joy to read and a bargain for the years of trial and error he will save us all as we plant fruit trees.

Great book! Missing some species and I wish it had more layout examples, especially for Canadian climate. Otherwise a great book and an essential part of my library.

Un must !

Good for zone 3 and more
Nice book good I information, but because we live in Yellowknife zone 1&2 that make the book not useful for us. I will be nice to mention the zone compatibility with the tree. But nice book for people who live in zone 3 and more
