Great set of scales at a reasonable price
I've owned these scales for about 18months now and can't fault them at all. The display is clear to see even when I put a large mixing bowl on top and the zero tare function is a god send....allowing you to weigh all your ingredients in the same bowl! They are easy to clean, easy to store and have been a great addition to my kitchen...battery life seems good as well, having only changed the battery once and that was only becasue I moved house and couldn't find where i'd put the originally battery having taken it out for storage!

Scale the heights
The old scales were looking rather sad after years of service. These scales are small and compact, but work brilliantly and are versatile. Easy to use and change from imperial to metric and to keep zeroing if you like. Were reasonably priced too. The lady of the house is well pleased, and my Mum is pleased with hers. Plus we all like James Martin.

Excellent when you get used to it...
The scale does take a few moments longer than my old (dead) digital scales to start up. I have to take care to press the buttons squarely as I have caught them under the plastic housing when pressed awkwardly, which flattens the battery as its just the same as holding the button down. The numbers are reasonably large but the angle makes it tricky to read if you are, for example, weighing out chips on to a baking tray (I'm a carb counting diabetic so weigh almost everything!) However the zero feature mean that I can start the scale with a plastic bowl on it and get a zero reading before adding a baking tray on top, thus leaving the screen easy to read. It also means you can weigh one item, zero the scale and add further items which is very useful indeed. Once you get used to adapting to keep the tilted display visible these are a great set of smart looking scales.

Worked well but only for 2 years
This was a great scale for about 2 years. It worked consistently well, measured with precision and accuracy, and was easy to use because of the design. However, after just over 2 years of use it stopped working completely and will no longer turn on. I tried replacing the battery and I also tried opening up the back of the scale to check that the on/off switch was positioned correctly, but it will not open. I will replace it with another brand as I do believe a digital scale should last longer than 2 years.

Ideal kitchen scales
I've been using these almost daily for a few months now and they're still on original batteries. You can use them with any basin or jug (I also weigh my vegetables in a casserole dish prior to microwaving). The scales are easy to tare (zero) for adding further ingredients to mixing bowls, and will start up showing 0g when you switch them on with your chosen vessel on top. Most importantly, they appear to be very accurate, always a difficult quality to find in domestic equipment, to within a couple of grams, much better than the ±50g I've had on some analogue models! These scales are a key part of my kitchen and help me achieve the results I want. I thoroughly recommend them.

So disappointed.
WAHL ZX 774 Digital Kitchen Scale. Bought this at the end of April. From the start had bothers getting it to start up. Almost as if it wasn't connecting. Haven't used it much but recently It stopped completely. Got new batteries but nothing is happening. So it's kaput. Usually like something that's not used every day to last for more than 4 months. Obviously Amazon wont replace, so have to buy another. Don't throw the box away.SO. Buy from somewhere that is helpful. I will go elsewhere from now on. Good customer. Bye.

The worst scales I've ever owned
I've had this nearly 4 years now, and although it's still working I'm about to replace it.First of all the pros.1. It's cheap.2. It's reasonably accurate. Now the cons.1. Although it weighs in 1g increments you can't weigh very small amounts because it just registers zero until it gets to about 3 or 4 g.2. Difficult to clean, the glass platform isn't removable and it's virtually impossible to clean the underside of the platform or the top of the scale underneath.3. The display panel gets marked very quickly so it looks dirty even though it isn't.4. When you zero it so you can add another item it goes back to the previous weight, so you have to press the button twice to reset it. This is particularly annoying if you forget and just press it once.5. Short battery life.6. However my biggest gripe of all (and the reason I'm calling it a day) is the time it takes to start up. When you switch it on the display jumps around for several seconds before settling to zero. I timed it with a stopwatch out of curiosity, and it took 7 seconds which is frankly ridiculous & intensely irritating, especially when you're weighing multiple ingredients and it times out before you've finished weighing. It's now going to the local charity shop and I shall wave it goodbye with a smile on my face!

Excellent design
These scales are first rate. Unlike many digital kitchen scales the weighing platform is raised above the base and the digital display is mounted at an angle. These two design features allow you to place quite large diameter bowls, pans and dishes onto the scales without obstructing the readout. The readout choice of metric or imperial is useful as is the "add and weigh" feature. Another big advantage is that the battery is a standard 9v alkaline whereas most competitors use the disc type of battery which is more difficult to find and can be quite pricey. I have only just received my scales but so far it is 100% pro and 0% con for this product.
