Good story writer
The characters are introduced nicely, clearly defined, and followed through with. In depth plot with several peaks. Not a book that was too easy to guess the line of.

Overall - Good Beginning to New Series
Elizabeth, a 32 year old librarian, has spent her entire life trying to make her socially prominent mother happy - without success. It has been Elizabeth's lifelong dream to write a book, and so when an opportunity presents itself to rent a cabin on a mountain, Elizabeth jumps at it to write and get away from Mom's expectations. Upon arrival, really strange stuff starts happening, and eventually Elizabeth realizes that the entire mountain is a pack of werewolves or wolvers, as they are called in this novel. Elizabeth takes it mostly in stride because she comes to trust and like many of the "down-home" citizens, as well the Alpha of the Pack, Marshal. There was a tremendous amount to like about this book. I loved Elizabeth's interactions with the townspeople and watching her change from a nerdy librarian to woman of much strength and courage. In fact those chapters that centered on Elizabeth moving into her cabin and her conversations with the town were super. Where the book let me down some was the romance between Elizabeth and Marshal. Some of their interactions failed to make the connection for me. I had a firm understanding of Elizabeth, but felt like I just didn't know Marshal as well. At the end of the book, I did get to know him better, but up until that point, I wasn't sure why Elizabeth was in love with him. However, the book completely held my interest, and I definitely enjoyed the new spin on the world of werewolves and their mates. I will definitely buy the next book in the series. One last complaint - This is the fourth book I have read from J. Rhoades. I have read and enjoyed the entire "Guardian" series, which I would rate 5 and 4 star reads; however, all of Rhoades' books end very abruptly - at least for me. Rhoades seems to wind up her books with an intimate sex scene and the "climax" - so to speak - seems to be close to the ending in each book. It is very nice that they all reach a HEA, but I would like to see More - perhaps a scene in the future, the next day, next week, next year. For instance, I would love to have seen a picnic with the townspeople in The Alpha's Mate in the spring where most of the women were pregnant. Still in all minor complaints for books that have kept me completely entertained.

This has to be one of my favorite books that I know I will be re-reading time ...
In all honesty, I only chose to read this book as a filler while waiting for another book to come out. Little did I know that I would become hooked. This has to be one of my favorite books that I know I will be re-reading time and time again. Forty-one chapters long, I thought it would be dragging in areas and just repeating what the readers already know but it was exciting and engaging, keeping this reader on the edge of her seat wondering what would happen next. Not only was it action-packed, it was funny as well. Some books will have the female protagonist trip over a little something or maybe bump gently into something and say that they’re clumsy and I just can’t really connect to those books because I’m clumsy as well. This book I was able to connect with in that area because Elizabeth is a downright clumsy woman and gets caught in embarrassing situations. Another funny thing that doesn’t usually happen in books, or just in the books I’ve read, is when she meets the guy she falls in love with, she thinks he’s gay.Usually in other books, when there’s something magical connecting the protagonists together, it’s just them and them alone. Someone may come in and try to break them up but their love will win and blah, blah, blah. The magical connecting element in this story is different as in it affects Elizabeth to be a potential mate to any Alpha and with three Alphas in the story, she struggles with what she doesn’t understand. Those were just a few of my favorite areas in the book and all-in-all this was a great read and I’m hungry for more. If you’re looking for some paranormal romance to try out or are just looking for a book that will really capture your attention, I would recommend this book.Thank you for taking the time to read my review

Very fun read.
Elizabeth Reynolds moves from the city for a fresh start in Rabbit Creek, her plans are to become an author and what better setting than a cabin in the woods. Of course her plans have a way of combusting when her car breaks down, she is found in her underwear by the Chief of Police. The house she has rented is in need of extra help and she finds out that there actually are werewolves, of course they call themselves wolvers but that is a technicality.Chief of Police Marshall Goodman knows that Elizabeth is meant to be his mate, but there are forces at work trying to attack their land and people that need to be taken care of first. Marshall tries to woo Elizabeth, but his efforts are a little off when Elizabeth forms her own ideas of why Marshall would never be interested in her.Very funny and a delightful shifter story. Elizabeth is a hoot, she is a thinker which often gets her in a bit of trouble. Marshall exudes alpha but he also is quite sweet when it comes to Elizabeth. Anxious to read more from this fantastic series.

Lovely :)
I've gotta start by saying just how much I actually adore this series. I could quite possibly go on for days about it such is my love for it. The thing is, I love shifter books but more and more recently I seem to be finding ones that are just about sex, shifter sex but nonetheless seriously lacking in storyline. Not these books though, don't get me wrong, they have their share of steamy scenes but even with them they are perfectly balanced in my opinion. Its not all about pushing boundaries or breaking taboos, the quality of the writing and the stories themselves are of such a high standard that those types of gimmicks aren't needed. The alpha's mate is an awesome book. Elizabeth may be out of her depth but she has an enormous amount of backbone and keeps on picking herself back up no matter what. Thats the kind of heroine we can all get behind. Strong smart and independent but not to the detriment of everything else. As for Marshall, he's everything an Alpha should be without being too pigheaded or arrogant. This book really has the perfect balance, it makes me laugh, it makes me cry, and no matter if its the first or fifth time I've read it I always react to the emotion in the story. I could sit and name the side characters that I liked best but it would probably read like a bad oscars speech so I will just say that each one, no matter how often they appeared in the story played their part to perfection. You fall in love with all the personalities and wish you too could move to Rabbit Creek and meet all these wonderful people. This is one of these series that I would recommend to everyone cause I honestly think once you try it you'll get sucked in just the same as the rest of us and not be willing to put it down till you get to the end :)

ok story but execution was not good! 2.5 stars
this is the first book from this author that I have read, and the first book in her 'wolvers series'. I mostly brought this book on the synopsis and others reviews. I love this type of book and was hopeful of finding a new author to add to my list.Instead I found myself reading a book that seemed more like it was in its drafting phase. at times it felt like parts of the story and/or dialogue were missing. don't get me wrong there was a half decent story, which is why I carried on reading it. however, it still didn't come across as a finished book. yes the story had a beginning, middle and end, but at no point did it truly flow.it even felt like I was just supposed to know and understand what was going on, though with the 'missing parts' I mentioned earlier and the fact that its not my story seems quite the impossible task. it had the potential of a good book, which made it all the more disappointing to me.furthermore, the characterisation in parts just wasn't good enough. the secondary characters were likable, but the relationship between the two leads felt forced and just wasn't that realistic. the male lead, marshall, never came across as being a man who had fallen in love with the lead, which made their relationship appear a bit one sided and lacking in an emotional connection. perhaps if this story had been written with the addition of marshall's point of view, instead of just the female leads this would have been better. marshall appeared to be a fairly complex character and explaining his past would have gone a long way in adding to this story. perhaps then I would have been able to feel some sort of emotional connection to him, after all he is this Alpha!this book was really expensive and if i am honest I don't think I got my moneys worth. sadly,I doubt I will be buying the next in the series which is 'Alphas choice', as it also costs a lot and I would rather be reading something that I felt was a finished piece of work. if you are into this type of book I recommend you try shelly laurenston and Suzanne wright's books, for me they are much more satisfying.2.5 stars.

A great author.
I have read all of this authors books and have enjoyed them all. The Wolvers series was a great find for me as I was becoming tired of poor little heroine who has to be rescued by the big strong hero stories. Ms Rhoades writes stories where the women are strong, the characters are believable, likeable and easy to feel for. Some of Lizzie's antics in The Alphas Mate had me laughing out loud and the misunderstanding regarding Marshall and Henry was great fun.The descriptions of Old Creepy eyes gave me the creeps, but the camaraderie within the pack more than made up for it.Ms Rhoades is a great writer, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending both the Wolver and the Guardian series of books. Personally, I can't wait for the next in either series.

A New Find
Discovered this writer quite by accident and am so glad I did.It had everything - a great storyline with a new twist on werewolves/shifters, a hero, a villain and the bad boy who could have gone either way and of course a heroine who was a nice mix of strong, tough, soft and lacking in self worth. There was also a good cast of supporting characters.I thoroughly enjoyed it and am about to start on the second book in this series. I expect to enjoy it just as much as this one.I have also bought the three books in the Guardians of the Race series - more of those at a later date. The really nice thing is that these books are for sale at a minute price - lucky for me and lucky for you if you are quick.

continuing with the story of the eldest Goodman brother, and his mate.the author continues to impress with her descriptive paragraphs, witty one liners and very memorable characters. i loved the interaction between the wild pups in this book, and Miss Kitty Kat's refusal to give up on them :-)only down side, is not much is mentioned about ELizabeth and Marshall and their pack from the first book. they are mentioned in passing and they turn up at the Mating, but not enough for my liking.while sex and violence are featured in this book, its very much part of the story and not over the top or too graphic.next one, here i come!
