Synopsis Television producer extraordinaire Aaron Spelling launched a pop-culture phenomenon with his 1990s teen soap opera Beverly Hills 90210, a landmark series that not only set the standard for '90s teen culture, but single-handedly wrote the rulebook for later shows like Dawson's Creek and The O.C. Created by Darren Star, the glitzy series chronicles the coming-of-age dramas of Minnesota siblings Brandon (Jason Priestley) and Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) as they adjust to their new affluent surroundings, where they attend the fictional West Beverly High with a tight-knit group of teenage friends: good-natured jock Steve Sanders (Ian Ziering); brainy good-girl Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris); naive virgin Donna Martin (Tori Spelling); aspiring DJ David Silver (Brian Austin Green); blonde siren Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth); and troubled bad-boy Dylan McKay (Luke Perry). Like its Canadian counterpart Degrassi Junior High, the series attempts social commentary by crafting storylines that feature a wide range of issues affecting '90s youths, including alcoholism, drug abuse, sex, and depression. Groundbreaking and iconic, 90210's fourth series is presented here in its entirety.

And now it's the Naomi Clark Show!
Well here we are with a not unusual dilemma for most tv series- it's season 4 and we really don't know what to do with the characters after seventy-odd episodes. The concept of this series was a bit thin in the first place; the next generation revival of a 90's show that itself ran for ten seasons. The whole next generation idea has been done before, and it worked reasonably well for the first two seasons. However the writers soon ran out of stories for the "grown-ups" --the kid's parents, school teachers, and the few characters brought back from the original series- leaving us with just what the "kids" got up to. So in this series, the kids have left school and most have gone to college, and whilst the stories of the earlier series revolved around the brother/sister duo of Annie & Dixon, this series makes friend and rich-bitch Naomi Clark the star, which is amusing at first, but soon becomes repetitive. Add to this a sanitised addiction storyline for Dixon, a slightly unbelievable escort girl story for Annie and the usual "let's swap partners" amongst the main characters, and it all starts to fall into "we've seen all this before" territory. This show also suffers from the same issue the original had: the actors are getting a bit too old to pass as teenagers! If you are a fan of the first three seasons, you will probably want to get this just to see where the cliff-hanger storyline at the end of series went (the answer is not very far)but it is hard to recommend this to the casual viewer.

Shannons last stand
If like me you were a fan of the original series of Beverly Hills 90210, then this is a must have as it was the last season that Shannon Doherty appeared in as Brenda Walsh and in my mind after she went the show went downhill. The series main focus is on Brenda and where she takes her life seen as her breakup with Dylan in series 3 she struggles to move on but finds a young man who she gets engaged to and nearly marries b4 seeing the bigger picture, she gets involved in animal rights but finds her true calling as an actress when she gets the lead in a play which sees her character get offered the chance to go to RADA in London to hone her acting skills. Once again Kelly becomes nasty and vile when Dylan prefers to spend time with Brenda as they have now become good friends he clearly can talk to Brenda about his life, Kelly even becomes jealous when Dylan wants to have time with his new found sister Erica. David Silver becomes hooked on drugs, Donna, Kelly and David all live together. The most shocking storyline this season given us is that Andrea Zuckerman has sex, gets pregnant and marries the baby's dad, this was due because the actress was pregnant in real life so it was written into the script. Brandon Walsh dipped his toe into the world of politics and if you have ever watched One Tree Hill in this season we get to see a very young looking Paul Johannson as John Seers who later went on to become Dan Scott the man who killed his brother Keith Scott, the character of John is a glimpse of what was to come later on in his career well worth checking out.

college 90210 style
after graduating all the cast end up together at california university and start life as college students. this leads them to new people and experiences, some good, some bad. but for me Paul Johannson steals the show as john sears, fellow frat brother of steve and love interest of kelly. this was definitely a warm up for his character Dan Scott from OTH as john is just as nasty!!! this was also the last season with shannon doherty as she was written out of the series and featured more this series than originally planned.dvd extras include: interviews with this seasons love interests, some of the actresses who played the mums on the show, interview with exec producer charles rosin about the changes this season.

Engrossed
After watching the 3rd series last year and finding it a bit lacking than the first two I wasn't in a hurry to get the 4th. How wrong was I. I loved this series, it had loads going on especially with Naomi and her new rival in the sorority clan and Ivys character had a bigger story line too which was nice to see develop. Bring on the 5th :)

Wow wow wow!!
The fourth season of Beverly Hills 90210 is by far the best of all. High school is over and the characters head to college where life gets even more complicated. Brandon begins an affair with his professor's wife, but ends the season with someone surprising. Brenda nearly gets married in Las Vegas in one of the funnier episodes, but ends the season with the only person she could end up with. Kelly and Dylan's relationship goes round in circles as she can't help but feel jealous over his friendship with Brenda. Andrea gets married and has a baby (shocking I know). Steve fights for membership in the college fraternity and gets involved with a psychotic girl. David's all night shifts at the campus radio gets him involved with drugs, and Donna's determination to stay a virgin proves too much for David, and the two end the season split up.This season is just so good, and sadly the last season with Shannen Doherty as Brenda. She was always my favourite character and I will find it hard to watch the next seasons without her in it. The extra long season finale 'Mr.Smith Goes To Washington' is my favourite episode of all time. Apart from David and Donna, everyone ends up with who they should end up with. The carnival setting just makes it seem so much more fun, and you can't help but smile and laugh, and feel sad throughout.Buy this season or miss out!
