Our bees make their delicious honey using nectar gathered from trees and flowers in the beautiful countryside surrounding the World Heritage city of Bath. Clay pots found nearby are thought to be Roman beehives, suggesting honey has been harvested here for more than 2000 years! Bath Bees honey is 100% natural, raw, unpasteurised, unblended and comes straight from the hive to you. Supermarket honey is a blend of imported honeys from around the world. The honey is heated, almost to boiling point and then micro-filtered to remove the pollen - destroying the natural goodness as well as disguising the origin of the honey. Multiple varieties are then blended to produce a consistent, bland taste. A recent survey found that 98% of supermarket honey produced using non-EU honey contained Paenbacillus larvae – the spores of a deadly infection that kills honey bees. Many people who are used to bland, blended, supermarket honeys are surprised and delighted by their first taste of our honey. The colour and flavour will vary according to the time of year that it is harvested and the flowers that the bees have been visiting. Flowers our bees visit include blackberry, clover, lavender, apple, dandelion, rosebay willowherb, maple, lime, and a range of wild herbs. We only take a small amount of honey from each of our hives, allowing them to build sufficient stores of food to see them through the winter. This means that supplies of our delicious, healthy honey are extremely limited and we are often out of stock. By buying our honey you are helping to support our bees in their important job of pollinating our plants, trees and food crops. Thank you!
