Great book
I'm using this as an introduction to WW1 with my Year 3 and 4 class as part of the centenary since the end of WW1. It is beautifully illustrated and deals with conflict in an emphatic way

Things that we loved!
I bought this to share with my Y5 class. Fenia and Anna wrote the review for me.When we read the book, we thoroughly enjoyed it and and not just one page but all of it. Hilary Robinson is a truly talented author. This book will hit you deep. Also the illustrations were beautiful and nothing in the book showed the real horrors of war. We'd highly recommend this book for all ages. It was astonishing!

Great!
Fantastic book for a very interested little WW1 learner. My son is obsessed with anything WW1 and WW2 so this has been a blessing to him.

Beautiful
Beautiful story, told in the "House that Jack built" style - tells of two little boys, who play together, go off to the First World War and are injured, and then are shown as veterans at the end. The illustrations are lovely, and evocative without being too graphic. It brought a tear to my eye, and the whole of the class were transfixed when reading it at school. An excellent prompt for remembrance day or any topic of war.
