Perfect
I always have a hard time finding shoes that fit my small wide feet. New Balance offers an excellent range of sizes and backs it up with quality! This boot is waterproof with speed laces at the top. It was comfortable from the first time I tried it on. It has never pressed a sore spot, created a blister or hurt my feet in any way (which I have to say is a major accomplishment for me). Even after all day, my feet are not angry with me.I would highly recommend this product. Very pleased!

My ankles like it a lot.
A very good shoe--and comfortable enough even for my ankle, broken years ago and still painful. This short rise is comfortable around that ankle. Thanks to other reviewers, I did order a half size up (could even do a whole size) and certainly next wide up size, and am glad I did. It's not the kind of shoes I'd wear all day, although I'm sure many people could. They are really great in all the snow/slush/ice I've been wading through here in the never-ending nasty snow and sub zero weather of Feb '15 in SE New England. Ugh! Oh, and I did treat with mink oil (EZ to do), and might use waterproof spray. Hope this helped. Hope the snow stops soon. Please.

Good Outdoor Walking Shoe
I have been a fan of New Balance shoes for years. My fitness walking is now primarily outdoors in the meadows on our Farm, so I was looking for something that would give me the support I need and be waterproof. This accomplishes that nicely. I ordered it in a half size larger than I normally wear, based upon what I read in the reviews. As a result, it's a good fit. One thing to be aware of, however, is that it fits more like a short boot than a shoe, coming up over the ankle bone. I'm used to that with other farm/outdoor footwear, but if one isn't, that aspect may feel a bit uncomfortable at first. Also, due to the nature of the shoe (country walking shoe), one can't expect the type of cushioning that New Balance normally builds into the more traditional fitness walking shoes. It's comfortable enough, but I wish it had that level of cushioning along with the stability. For that reason only, I give it 4 and not 5 stars.

Three tries to get right size
I have worn New Balance shoes for over 20 years and can not understand what has gone wrong with their sizing. I wear an 8 wide so that is what I ordered. Those were to short . I wear orthotics and I could not even get them into the boot - so tried on the boots without orthotics - same result - toes jammed up right to the tip of the boot. Then I ordered an 8 1/2 wide. That length was fine but way to wide. There were gaps between the orthotic and the side of the shoe and leather buckled around the laces. Third time was the charm - I ordered and 8 1/2 medium - and they fit perfectly - orthotic slipped in perfectly. I have never had so much trouble getting the right size in New Balance. Now for my review of the boot once I finally got the right size. They look great and feel very comfortable. I bought the grey color which looks better in person than in the picture - very nice. This is the second pair of country walkers I have had and can tell by the aggressive tread that these will work just as well as the old pair on show and ice. I can walk anywhere without fear of falling or slipping on ice. Love the Gore Tex lining - they keep your feet warmer and dry.

New NB Convert
I've only recently become a New Balance convert, now I'm hooked! I've spent years putting up with minor discomfort in most shoes I wear, thinking it's just part of having problem feet that have been surgically rebuilt. Over Christmas I took a chance and ordered a pair of NB athletic shoes and was amazed at how comfortable they were. They fit me perfectly with no rubbing on my big toes or heels. Bought a second pair in a different style, same result. This almost never happens! So when I saw these hiking boots online, I went for it. It's hard to find anything under a size 6 in stores. Based on reviews, I ordered my regular size, 5.5 wide. I'm happy to say they fit like the athletic shoes - very well. No rubbing in the toe box, pretty comfortable all around. The soles are pretty stiff. They aren't flexible, but they're curved in the front so walking doesn't feel awkward. My feet are NOT flexible so putting them on was a bit of a struggle at first, but they are gradually getting better as they break in. I use a long-handled shoe horn. The back of the boot rises fairly high on my ankle, and it's stiff so it presses on the back of my achilles tendon. At first it caused some discomfort but it's getting better as they break in and I work on bending the area to soften it. I find it helps if I don't use the top hook when tying them. The top hook really isn't needed unless you're going to be doing some heavy duty walking on uneven ground.Arch support generally isn't an issue for me, but I notice the arch of the shoe doesn't quite touch the arch of my foot. If you need extra arch support, you may think about changing out the sole inserts.Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and I can finally throw out my old, worn-out Wolverines. :)

Outstanding Walking Comfort
Wonderful walking shoes - I just glide over rough spots. I used to get forerfoot pad pain with long walks but not anymore. These shoes have excellent soles and great rocking motion for walking. Highly recommend!
