Crosley Radio Cr55-Bk 302 Corded Phone

Looks great out of the box, and was very easy to install. Looks great, but it is made of plastic and lacks vintage ‘feel’. The actual ‘ring’ is also vintage, which is a nice touch! Very happy overall with this phone and would buy it again.

Like many who live in older homes, I have an old AT&T wall plate in the kitchen that's not near an electrical outlet. The only way to cover it is with a corded phone. I got tired of the old, beige early 90's thing I had hanging there and searched for something cool that fit my decor, without being overly cutesy. The red phone is actually a nice dark cranberry color (my father tells me the color was all the rage circa 1959) and it provides a pretty punch of color to the wall. Unlike some reviewers, the sound on mine is perfectly clear, the bell tone (set it to low) sounds just like the rings of old, and while not quite as heavy as the phones I remember from childhood, it's a pretty solid piece. It's truly retro in that there are no frills (aside from redial and flash) such as backlighting or caller ID, but my modern living room phone's ring tones tell me who is calling. As far as function goes, this phone is for answering when I'm in the kitchen and calling the electric company when the power goes out. But it's very pretty, well priced, and sure to be a conversation piece. *Beware: Ignore the accessories Amazon associates with this. You cannot replace the cord with a longer one. It's molded to the phone.

This phone was most likely designed to be a decorative piece that could also be useful. I purchased it because my cordless phones never seem to make it to a charger. I have had an incredibly difficult time trying to find a decent phone that plugs into the wall. Immediately, I was impressed with my purchase. It seems to be of great quality construction, heavy (but not as heavy as the old kind I remember my parents having when I was a child), it looks great, and most importantly it has crystal clear sound. There is a place on the back of the phone where you can choose high or low volume and where you can choose to turn the ringer on or off. The ringer is definitely not a modern "ringtone". It is the old ringer style from years past. Some might find it annoying (but it can be turned off), but I love it. The cord is actually a nice length and it does not tangle like I remember cords of my childhood doing. True, there is no caller ID, but my tv has caller ID and most of the time, I answer the phone anyhow. I have caller ID elsewhere and use it to check missed calls mostly. If you are wanting this phone as a decorative piece or as a useable, dependable, wall phone, I think you will be pleased with your purchase.

I adore this phone. It even looks better in person than online. I was just talking to my daughter on this phone and the sound was perfect, much better than the previous phone we had. It is old school - no caller ID so be sure you are comfortable with that. Also, if they suggest that you buy an extra long cord and cord detangler, DO NOT! Amazon is making that suggestion and the cord is permanently attached, you cannot switch it out. I had to pay the return shipping on that, bummer when Amazon prompted me to buy them. It looks fabulous in my new kitchen and we have plenty of other phones that are cordless for when we need that. And this one works when the power goes out! Swanky and fun.
