AD20 does its job better than I ever expected
I am a passionate DIY mechanic and an engineer by training. I originally bought an Xtool D8 because it has capabilities that rival many dealer level service departments. It cost me several hundred dollars and I think it is an exceptional value with amazing capabilities and outstanding customer service the few times I needed it.I purchased an Xtool AD20 recently to complement my Xtool D8. I was looking for a simple and inexpensive way to monitor my vehicle by leaving it on the vehicle.I was immediately impressed with the capabilities of the AD20. After an initial hiccup getting it to connect (which was completely my fault for not reading instructions properly) I connected it to my 2008 Buick Lucerne. This car has the 3.8 Liter engine and is my daily driver. My expectations were not high because the price was so low at less than $30. I was simply wrong. This inexpensive tool is exceptional.I am amazed at the abilities for such a low price. The unit has an easy to use interface which even the least technical among us can easily understand. The AD20 conducts tests without needing to know all the minute technical details normally associated with more expensive scanners. I used the scanner to diagnose and repair an engine miss problem that resulted from a bad ignition coil on the number 3 cylinder. I also located an intermittent evaporative leak caused from a bad gasket on my gas cap.I left the scanner attached and now use it once a week or more to perform in depth performance testing. I have included screen shots of the functions. While taking these screen shots, I found there is even more to the unit than I knew. It has most of the highly technical capabilities like “live data” and “Mode 6” which allow an experienced mechanic to evaluate complex engine functions and evaluate performance before a failure occurs. Normally these and some of the other details are reserved for much more expensive machines. The best part is that you don’t have to know everything to get a great deal of information since the diagnostic programming is highly automated. You can even connect to the internet and get probable cause explanations for almost any failure code.I am going to buy a AD20 for every vehicle I own. Though you can move it from vehicle to vehicle, I think it is so handy and the price so cheap, that I want one on every care we drive. This weekend I am teaching my 8 year old grandson to use the AD20 in his mother’s car. I am completely confident he can learn it quickly and use it effectively. I am planting the seeds of desire to fix things in him and the simplicity combined with the in depth capabilities of the AD20 make it the perfect tool to teach him with. As an added bonus, the phone based APP system is always up to date with the latest software improvements.Buy it. It will save you money and give you peace of mind.

Unbelievable scanner for under $20 bucks
I purchased the AD20 because I currently have the A30D and love its features, performances, accuracy, and the companies technical support. I also wanted a backup just in case.So far its performed well on a number of vehicles both foreign and domestic. The Dashboard seems very intuitive from my perspective. The features are very similar to the Blue Driver, but at a reduced cost.My benchmark for comparison was the XTool A30D which has a higher cost, but can perform more elaborate tests. I found that when scanning with both, the AD20 was slightly faster than the A30D. I thought it might be because the A30D performed a deeper scan, but the failure results were the same with both which leads me to believe the same modules were scanned. One difference I noticed was when the A30D found a failure it would provide some solutions via the web, but the AD20 would provide text within the app describing the failure. Not a big concern for me.It also has the ability to review live data. Again, Something you may not find in scanners >$20 bucks. This device has the virtual dashboard, which I haven't tried. If your looking to do bi-directional communication or actuation tests, the AD20 is not capable, but I wouldn't expect that from a $20 dollar device. All in all I'm very happy with the AD20.I've noted 4 stars for accuracy and ease of use. It will take some time to confirm accuracy so I left it at a 4.It was a little difficult navigating the menus but after utilizing it for a bit, it became easier.

Works as expected. Only limited to use with company app…
It works great. Simple to use. Takes a while to scan and get information, but what can you expect for a $20 OBDii reader.works perfectly to find what’s wrong with your vehicle. Like all the options as well as digital dash.Main reason I bought it was for my Dr. Prius app and it only works with the company’s Advancer app which it’s locked to so can’t use with other apps. I have a obd reader but can’t diagnose which cells are bad on my Prius. So I’ll be returning it.Thanks for making a good reader.
