Did exactly what it was supposed to - very good product

I recall this being prescribed for me many years ago and decided to purchase it as it is available as an 'over the counter' product.The earlier version of this was as brown, tasteless granules that were somewhat difficult to swallow but effective nevertheless.This 'modern' version contains 62% of the active ingredient sterculia which is a vegetable gum from the the karaya tree. Gum karaya is an acid polysaccharide composed of the sugars galactose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid. It is used as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, as a laxative, and as a denture adhesive.The remaining 38% of the product is composed of sodium hydrogen carbonate (also known as bicarbonate of soda as contained in baking powder), sucrose, talc (which is used as a filler in many medicinal tablets), titanium dioxide (possible to change the colour of the granules to white and to prevent changes in the product due to exposure to sunlight. The granules also contain hard paraffin and vanillin.Do not take Normacol if you know or have been told you have a blockage in your gut; total lack of muscle tone in the colon; faecal impaction or an allergy to any of the ingredients.Dosage for adults is one to two heaped (5ml) teaspoonfuls of granules once or twice a day after meals. Not to be taken when in bed or lying down.The instructions say that the dosage can be broken into smaller amounts if difficult to swallow, but someone I know who has to swallow many tablets suggests that tilting the head slightly backwards opens up the throat and makes swallowing easier. This is the method I have to use.Does Normacol work? Yes, when taken regularly. Why have I given it only four stars? Because next time I will buy something that is easier and more pleasant to take as in a drink.

I think this is an excellent product. It is easy to take, tastes pleasant and has not caused any bloating or gas. I find my IBS is eased and I am feeling much better since the on off constipation has stopped.

Excellent product which does everything as advertised

It simply works. No side effects of bloating or colics.

Excellent Product would recommend this to anyone who requires extra fibre in their diet.
