Funny, Witty and Touching
Ugly Betty is without a doubt my favourite T.V. show. The characters, the setting, the writing and the music all bring this series to utter perfection in my eyes. There are twists, turns and turmoils in the chic world of Mode, the high brow magazine which employs Betty Suarez, the opposite of those previous adjectives, as the assistant to Mode's Editor-in-Chief, Daniel. At first, the characters that work at Mode seem rude and cruel, but soon they open up to Betty and show their kind side (behind closed doors, of course). The script is extremely witty and amusing. You'll find yourself laughing your head off at some of the scenes in this. A particular episode is the Fashion Week one. This, to me, is the greatest episode on this series; it's funny, sharp, clever and delivers a great climax. The finale to the series is shocking, and leaves you on a tremendous cliffhanger. I've already bought series two and adored it! It's so much better than S1, even though S1 is amazing.Anyway, you should definitely buy this if you love divas and drama combined! Superb series. The cast, crew and writers deserve many awards for their achievements. :)

Ugly Betty - Season One
The first season of "Ugly Betty" makes for great and very entertaining viewing, and I hugely recommend this boxset. There are some great, light-hearted comedy moments with the "Ugly Betty" series- although I wouldn't really call it a rolling-on-the-floor-laughing affair- but it's highly entertaining, well written and shot, with loveable characters and great acting.Set in New York, the story tells of underdog Betty who dreams of being an editor for a magazine. Fresh-faced and excitable, she's given the opportunity to work for one of America's top fashion Magazines 'Mode' and the show follows the toils and troubles of being a slightly overweight, brace-wearing girl working in the glossy world of size-zero models and arrogant men. There are some really great characters in this show- Wilimina Slater is the evil, vindictive, cunning anti-christ of the magazine, with her camp and bitchy side-kick Mark- both of whom are brilliantly portrayed and hilariously written; Betty herself is excellent and her family are brilliant- in particular her nephew Justin is wonderful and some of his performances really do deserve to be award-winning (although more so in later seasons). There are quite a few moments in this season which brush very closely with the film "The Devil Wears Prada"- not just because the general plot is similar, but also the events which happen within that plot. That's a bit annoying- but I've let that slide. My only other quarrel with this season is that some of the special effects such as the Brooklyn background are really low quality in this season. According to a documentary on the DVD extras this is because of the low budget issued for the first season; so I guess it's understandable- although it is really noticeable. As I've said, this isn't the most hilarious comedy ever to hit the screens, but it really is heart-warmingly entertaining and greatly amusing; the characters, acting and direction are all excellent and the show is completely addictive, all resulting in an excellent programme and great boxset.

Brilliant. I Will Purchase Season Two. Hooked!!
I decided to buy this because everyone has been talking about it. I saw a used one on here for like 1p and snapped it up! I could not be any happier with this. It's just so good. Compelling storyline. Characters are interesting. Not a dull episode, yet. Set in New York, Manhattan. Some hot guys in this too. It's just great. I cannot wait for it to finish so I can start on series 2. Good job, America Ferrera! Love Betty, she's real, normal, doesn't try to fit in, and just so down to earth, and some moments you feel sorry for her and at times you have to laugh. Strong family too. I recommend everyone gives this a try...

weird and wacky show with a morality tale
I just love this show. It is so different to anything else I can think of. The characters are like pantomime people, with their loud colourful clothes, and over-the-top performances. Most of the magazine workers are either bitchy, two-faced, or down right rude to each other. In the cut-throat business it's dog-eat-dog. All except the lovely Betty and her family. She looks kookie, tries too hard to please everyone, and is always being taken for a ride by someone. Betty cares about people and their feelings; she is a thoroughly good egg amongst lots of addled ones. Apart from being weirdly funny and entertaining; there is quite often a morality tale hidden somewhere. I can watch it any time.

Pretty Damn Brilliant Betty
I absolutely love this series! It's quirky snippy snappy sarky super fun and it has churned out some great memorable characters worth rooting for. Even the deliciously evil ones. It's a marvelous show but it's not flawless. It walks a thin line between realism and farce and sometimes there's a few fumbles where plot lines get just a tad silly and melodramatic for their own good. The big mystery doesn't quite deliver the earth shattering payload it initially promised either, but it doesn't disappoint for long. There's always something much more mysterious and shocking just waiting in the wings to reveal itself that will totally keep you hooked.Overall though, Ugly Betty is simply pretty damn brilliant. Highly Recommended!

a really great show
with a great message underneath all the backstabbing, lying, egotistical models, plotting, and everything else that makes Ugly Betty a truly great show. It also lets people know that it is okay to be who you are and that you don't have to conform to everyone else's opinions or thoughts on you.The First Season of the show runs the gamut from evil, vindictive and power hungry creative directors plotting with a secret someone to take back control of the Mode magazine. Run currently by Daniel Meade who's late night out short of being fired on a daily basis with his sleeping with just anyone that comes in his office or within his sights. Until Betty Suarez walks into his life as his new assistant that doesnt fit the model, slim and at your whim mode that he's used to. She's actually very good at her job and manages to get Daniel to change (well in some ways at least). All the while dealing with his brother Alex's "death" (you've gotta see that one coming).Meanwhile Betty is trying to juggle all the things going on with her family at home. Her father's immigration problems, her sister's job crisis and her nephew Justin. Who would fit in perfectly at Mode as he knows all about fashion, musicals and everything else that Betty is pretty clueless about. She's also seeing Walter who she thinks is the one but isnt quite sure on that even though he "wuvs" her very, very much. Her sister Hilda is dealing with ex coming back into her life and doing what he did best in the past not showing up. But things get a bit better on that road for her as she still struggles to find her own way and niche in life.I also love the show because of Marc the gay assitant and Amanda well for being herself. It's great to have that in the show and helps draw more folks to a show that might not watch Ugly Betty otherwise and besides. The way they play off of each other is just another added bonus to watch throughout the season. The season ender "East Side Story" ends on a shocking and traumatic cliffhanger for the Suarez family as a tragedy rocks Hilda, Betty, and Justin. Suffice to say the first season of Ugly Betty is off the hook and is only a slight peek into what i'm sure will be an equally great 2nd Season of a bright and upcoming show.An excellent show with all the things listed plus a message in it as well. Be who you are and have fun with it no matter what.
