Better than the plastic OEM filter housing!
I love the fact that most Toyotas in recent years have gone to a permanent filter housing with repleaceable filter media. Yes, it's a little more of a pain to change the oil, because you have to drain the housing before changing the filter media, but on the upside, you can actually SEE what filter media you're putting in there. It's not a sealed can like every other car/truck I've owned has used.When I first got my used 2nd gen Tundra, of course I had to look up (YouTube) how to change the oil, because the system was a little unfamiliar. But a few minutes later (and another trip to the store for a Toyota filter wrench), I was in business. Unfortunately, the OEM filter housing is plastic and has 2 or 3 little "ears" on each side that slot into the filter wrench. Those tabs had been partially broken off by the previous owner, or his oil-change provider, making the housing hard to remove.A couple of years later, I discovered these aftermarket cast/machined aluminum replacement filter housings. We've added a 4Runner to the garage, and I've already upgraded it with one of these. I wouldn't want anything else now.So -- why THIS filter housing vs. some other one? I'll say that this one is beautifully machined, which will help the O-rings seal better. It's lower-priced than most similar ones, yet just as nice or better.One thing you may want to do (that I learned from a video): The perforated center tube is shorter for some vehicle models than for others, and this housing comes with a shorter one than my Tundra needs. Fortunately, it's a pretty simple matter to swap out the original center tube and install it into the aftermarket housing. It looks like I'll need to bend down the two tabs indicated with the pencil in my photos, at which point I can depress the tube against the spring, rotate it a few degrees, and pop it out. Once the new one is in, I'll bend the tabs up to lock it in place in this new housing. is this completely necessary? Maybe not. I think the tube just helps lend a little more structure to the filter media, and the last thing you want is for that to collapse somehow and restrict oil flow.Final words? If you drive a compatible Toyota, definitely upgrade to this filter housing. It's more durable than your original and will make future oil changes easier by not having those annoying broken plastic ears.

Not a perfect fit because it did drip after driven. Might need a bigger O-ringalso I would use spring out of the Factory housing to make sure tension was correct

Very easy install, seems to be good quality
Can't really get an action video, but took a couple of side-by-side comparison shots compared to the old one, for what that's worth. I appreciate the all metal material. The new filter took a little pressure to get in while the old one fell right out, so there may be a slight difference in size, or that might just be from wear on the old one. The filter came with O-rings but they were included with this housing cap so they weren't necessary.Overall I gotta give it a 5/5. Excellent, all metal build. Seems to work as intended (hard to tell on the inside, but it's nearly identical to the OEM so I can't judge that way. Highly recommend to replace the original. Although in retrospect I probably should have put anti-seize on the threads... well, there's my advice if you get this, add anti-seize to the threads, heh. Solid 5/5

The aluminum casting and machining look fantastic
I have a 2014 FJ. I do the oil changes myself and never let the dealer touch it. (excluding the fuel pump recall)Though I'm not really a fan of Toyota's "new-ish" filter design, "it is what-it-is". The original Toyota housing on my vehicle is black plastic. This aluminum cast housing looks fantastic, as does the machining of the threads and mating surfaces. I'm still about a month or 2 away from the oil change, but will update my review after it's done.As a side note, the little plastic drain adapters (in one of the photos) are not included with this housing, they come with replacement filters. One of those adapters has threads, instead of the 3-tab style, for insertion to drain the housing. I can't recall which brand of replacement filter provided the threaded adapter, but it is superior to the 3-tab style. At least for me, the 3-tab style does not like going into my original Toyota housing. And when it does go in, it's annoyingly resistant to come out. Removing it takes enough force to make me think a piece of a plastic tab will break off and get stuck in the housing. So if you come across the threaded style, (which I only found 1 time) don't let go of it - by comparison it is a pleasure to use.

Pretty close to OEM. Should do the trick
My first pic is of an OEM one and this one. Both have same model number, gaskets included, plug and o-ring included. This one is very similar in weight to the OEM one. All features are identical.I did include pic of slight imperfection on the housing where the oil socket would slide around. The seam is open a bit...not sure if this would fail or not with the extreme heat these housings are subjected to.

I came with the oil filter cap but I used an old one (from the old plastic housing) which works perfectly, No oil leak.
