Charged
This book was charged with a lot of tension. The story flowed smoothly till the end. You were right there with Tom and Jason at ever step. The friendship between them and their roommates is incredible and see them all grown throughout this book. The boys are so mature, but also have the childlike innocence you'd expect from 14 year old boys. The only confusing thing in the book is the fact there is not one true Narrator and there isn't an obvious indicator when the Narrator changes, nor is the dialog written in an obvious way of noticing who is speaking, at first or what words are said out loud or just in thought; at least that's how three digital version looks. All in all, a meaningful story about friendships, hardships, and football.

A fiction story that is sometimes all too real!
A timely, well-written book that deals directly and honestly with the reality of racism even at the level of high school athletics. If anything the book is almost too sterile in its interactions between races and between academic classes, Things can get real ugly, real fast in the real world, but author Feinstein plays it pretty safe. For that and some unnecessary stereotyping - southern racists vs enlightened New Yorkers - I knocked it down a peg.And not for nothing, on page 73... the guy who built the bridge doesn't "accidentally" fall on the detonator!

Great book for older readers
Finding books that my 13-year-old son will read was difficult until I found Feinstein. His books keep my son engaged and off of the video games.

Excellent Read
I really enjoyed this book even though it was primarily written for younger readers (I'm 63). It's a great mix of sports, friendships and the biases that many young people have to deal with today. You find yourself really pulling for the two main characters to win out over the school's and coaches old fashioned rules. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a novel without the violence of many other books.

We had the audio book and listened in the car. Since all my Children are into sports, this was a page turner in the car and at home,

Yet another fantastic novel by the legendary John Feinstein
Yet another fantastic novel by the legendary John Feinstein! Loved this story and couldn't put it down once I started it, I finished it in less than 3 days. Will be continuing to support John in the future.
