I like this series of books - the quantity of recipes makes up for the lack of pictures, and everything is quick and easy. It's true that you might want to increase the seasoning, but the recipes themselves are solid and easily tinkered with. I've cooked quite a few dishes from this book and my favourites were: sweet potato and lentil soup, aubergine enchiladas, spicy pecan balls in tomato sauce, banana and date chimichangas, and the hot chocolate. Don't be deterred by instructions like 'grate the pecans' - giving them a quick whizz in a blender worked for me.

If you want to prepare Mexican food, I would not use this book.
I am Mexican, but I bought this as a present for a friend interested in Mexican cuisine as I thought it would use ingredients easy to find in UK. However, when I was writing a dedication for my friend I read some of the recipes and got really disappointed. I don't know where the author learned to cook, or if these recipes are good or not, but I can tell you that 80% of these recipes just barely resemble Mexican food. Maybe the "taste of..." in the title implies that the author is just giving her version of Mexican meals. BUT, if this is the case, then the back cover ("these 130 recipes remain true to the tasty culinary traditions of Mexico") is highly misleading: adding chilli, tabasco sauce or corn oil to a recipe does not make it "Mexican." Even very simple (and delicious) recipes like quesadillas, frijoles or refried beans are totally wrong. More than half of these recipes were totally unknown to me... They may be delicious, but I would not call them "Mexican" at all! I started writing corrections and annotations for my friend, but I'm on page 56 and I'm frankly tired. If you want to prepare Mexican food, I would not use this book.

Good tool to have in the library
Really good book for those who desire more of a start in the adventure of other cultural tastes. Delivery was super quick; 2 days. No pictures of the dishes. Good quality paper pages and print font . Great VEGAN recipes, however i was a little let down as i thought there would be more ''authentic'' recipe dishs contained within this book, that said it is still a good book and am glad i purchased it for reference.

A nice small collection of good basic recipes many of which are great for every day. However, I have found that some do need a bit more seasoning than suggested. It might just be my taste buds though as it is all down to personal taste..

Wonderfully inventive & varied use of untypical foodstuffs.
Bought this as a present for a very good, vegan, friend of mine; we live in Shetland, so it's not so easy to buy the more exotic vegetables that would be easily available further South, but this book is extremely practical & my friend has enjoyed adapting the recipes to what is available up here>
