The Raven King: Volume 2 (All for the Game)

I'm fine.
I read basically the whole thing in two days and considering how little I actually read this month that should tell you everything. The Raven King really builds on the first book, delves deeper into the drama and does a great job of making you fall in love with all the characters. I would basically die for Nicky at this point ngl. There's some really hard hitting stuff in this one but god, it really pulls you in. And who'd a thunk I'd get SO invested in full play-by-play descriptions of a fictional sports game?? But it's so good! I almost wish I could actually watch a real game of Exy because I'm still not entirely sure I know what they're doing half the time. Finally I just wanna say, the Ravens? Are complete bonkers. Why they gotta be so dramatic for? I was honestly rolling my eyes so far back into my skull everytime they wore the same clothes and moved in sync and were just generally mental like the weird little Shining twins.Anyway, in the great words of Neil Josten, "I'm fine". 🥲 I can't wait to read the next one.

Imagine everything bad that could happen to these characters..... And then double it. I am not okay. I am obsessed with finding out what's going to happen next though and I can't stop reading this series!!

fascinating
As I mentioned in a previous review, I wasn't a huge fan of the first book and I was seriously considering not continuing the series. But I'm so glad I continued because Nora Sakavic doesn't disappoint in this sequel. The Raven King picks up straight after the events of book 1, continuing the story of Neil and the Foxes as move forward with the game season, counting down the days until they have to face the Ravens. Alongside this, Neil struggles with hiding his past and keeping it together in the presence of Riko's menace. The way Sakavic writes is really simple, not too OTT, considering the events of the novel which is what made it really nice to read. It's fast-paced but not in a way that leaves you confused as she reveals more about the characters and their determination in the rough world of Exy. The characters are developing, as are their relationships, and it's fascinating but you do find yourself having to stop and think about who is who with some of the other team members, but I was so focused on Neil and Andrew that didn't bother me as much as it did in the first book. Also, Neil's one of those characters that you just want to pick up from their novel and place them somewhere safe. BECAUSE SO MUCH BAD STUFF HAPPENS AND HE JUST DOESN'T DESERVE ANY OF IT.

Absorbing but brutal
This is the middle book in a trilogy and it feels like it. A sense of dread hangs over proceedings and there is a sustained campaign of torture which is partially described in detail with the full extent seen later. This book is an excellent setup for the final book, which should be a humdinger.

Even better than the first one
Terrific. Sequel to The Foxhole Court. The tension doesn't let up and so much more is explained....The characters are developing and changing, as are their relationships, and it's fascinating. Frustratingly, though, I still have to stop and think about who is who with some of the other team members, but I think that's just me, as I'm so focused on the main characters.Neil is, irresistibly, being changed by his involvement with this band of dysfunctional people and their insistence on pushing into his life, no matter what their reasons might be (being who they are it's not always quite clear). Andrew is the one who tips the balance and finally draws him in, I think, with one gesture, although I didn't realise it at the time. Once it became clear it gave me goose bumps - I don't want to give too much away, but it was a huge thing for Neil.In my review of the first book I did Kevin a disservice - I described him as a non-character, but, knowing how his hand was injured from the first book, having 'met' Riko now, I understand why Kevin is the way he is. Andrew is still Andrew, but, again, I understand far more now and he's extraordinary.I can't think how to describe the end of the book, other than to say it's harrowing. Most is left to your imagination, and it's all relevant, but the final few pages were the most powerful - Neil is changed, he is involved, and some of the protagonists are in for a huge shock. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I love this series
Arrrghhh so good. So dark but so good. I absolutely feel for the gang; I swear they are all so unlucky.I would literally die for all the foxes at this point, book 3 is gonna wreck me.

Sporting drama 2
Another brilliant if little strange story. We continue to get more back stories about the dysfunctional team The Foxes. when one of the team die the rest start to pull together on and off the court. A couple of clashes with the top team, The Ravens, builds the animosity between the 2 teams but sadly this book does not make it to end of season. I can feel the tension building up to the final match between Foxes and Ravens. If u have seen mighty ducks, Youngblood, Rocky, karate kid u can see the build up as the Foxes and Ravens plough their way through the rest of the Class1 teams. I can't wait for book 3 to come out and hopefully get us to the final game where the music starts and builds until they get to the final minutes of the game everyone tired near to dropping and the final pep talk before heading back to starting places and the end of game begins. Maybe I watch too many films but this is how this book makes me feel. Come on Nora put me out my misery and give me book 3.
