Q: Would this be good for storing winter sweaters?I have limited closet space.

That's what I use it for. Except that this chest is VERY large. I suggest measuring where you plan to put it to make sure it will fit in your space and look nice. Also, because it's wicker, you will need to store sweaters in boxes or space bags to inhibit moth infestation.

Yes, it would be sturdy enough for a toy bin, however, it is very deep.

Q: Does anyone use this as a coffee table? (would love to see pics!) will it stand up as a foot rest? anyone have cats? do the cats scratch on it?

I use it as a side coffee table yes! because of the wicker, things do not sit level on them so i have a wooden tray for decor and as a flat space to place cups/mugs and magazines. it would stand up as a foot rest but honestly, it's a little too high for a foot rest in my opinion. I dont' have cats!
