Easy to read with good examples
I usually don't like course books, as they are dry. This one is actually easily read and not repetitive. the information is well presented and the format makes good sense. The Q&A are very good, as are the examples; I am very happy with this as revision material.

The worst book I have ever read
The worst book I have ever read.. The books published by Cisco for their own courses are almost always crap , but this book and its Volume II, are at the top of their worst books.Cisco should hire the authors like René Molenaar and Todd Lammle , for their CCIE books . I have read the books of these authors for my CCNA and CCNP studies. Both authors not only have the full grasp of knowledge but most importantly the technique and skill to explain the complex topics in a brilliant way......A genius in a subject not necessarily means a good teacher or a good author of a book on that subject ......teaching and writing a technical book is totally a different set of skills.......CISCO should know/understand that especially when the quality material/books , for CCIE R & S is very limited in the market

Great CCIE written study guide!
I cannot understand the negative reviews for the book. I am currently using it as a refresh to recertify my CCIE and have found all topics to be very well put together, comprehensive and with enough new material based on the latest software releases to be much more than just rehashing what has come before it. I can admit that there are very rare occasions where I think the author could have explained a concept in a way that someone new to the topics might find easier to follow, however this is only once or twice throughout a book covering pretty complex material, also the author also includes references to relevant RFC's and further reading material that any reader can use to build on and solidify their understanding where needed. There are very good uses of commands and CLI output throughout the book to demonstrate behaviours being described. All in all an excellent resource and I definitely recommend it.

The book does what is says on the tin and I would recommend it. However it is a premium book and it feels unedited and rushed. I had hoped it would not be as long winded as other Cisco press books. There is far too much repetition with paragraphs repeating information previously mentioned. There is a feeling that the different authors have had their work copied and pasted together. There could also be more use of diagrams and charts, spacing and bullet points. It sometimes it feels as if someone is trying to describe things down the phone into an answering machine and they are terified the tape will run out. There is far too much repetition with paragraphs repeating information previously mentioned.Narbik Kocharians is by all accounts and incredible tutor and I had hoped for more from this. His other books are considered good value at 10 times the price of this. He perhaps needs a good (or less hurried) editor.I am looking forward to getting stuck into Volume 2 though.
