Michael Morpurgo is a favourite author - this is a beautiful book
I have bought this for three young children in our family - to be sure they understand something of what was given for them and for us all, in that terrible World war.

Incredible
A fantastic Story based book following a young boy living on a farm in flanders. Through a family story passed down through the generations it tells the tale of the great war and those who fought in it. Read this to my 6 year old who was enthralled with it having been learning about WW1, WW2 and remembrance in school. Perfectly written and illustrated for a younger child to grasp the enormity of war and the reasoning behind remembrance. He has now taken it to school for "show and tell" as he wants to talk to his class about the book and read "Flanders Fields" poem to help them understand.

A book for everyone, a book about poppies and love and sacrifice
In flanders field is a poem very close to my heart as it is for Martens. I have special memories related to that poem. My grandad is 95 and he fought in the WW2 and his father fought in WW1. The impact of the war in their lives was so significant. This book reminds me of what these soldiers went through. Higly recommended. The visual impact of the red poppies standing out on the black and white pages is so moving as well."The living owe it to those who no longer can speak to tell their story for them!Read this book, because it's not only a children book, but it's a book for everyone. Lest we forget!
