Clear, calm, encompassing information. A must-read!
This book is a life saver. After an abrupt and rubbishy handled diagnosis of type 1 of my 16yr old daughter, and a week in hospital with DKA, we were reeling. Our diabetes service, good now -a year later - was rubbish in the initial weeks and months and we were really struggling to process everything and get a handle on it all. This book gave us a wealth of clear, structured, rational information. It explained everything that we wanted to be explained and it doesn't talk down to you. It enabled my daughter to take back control of her life and for her to be in charge instead of the type 1 and instead of relying on the contradictory and often patronising edicts that the diabetes services put forward. This book is easy to read through and also useful to cherry pick to answer specific concerns. If you have had a recent diagnosis of yourself or your child definitely buy this book!!

This book was recommended to me as the 'bible' for teenagers/children/parents of children diagnosed with T1. My son was diagnosed just 2 weeks ago and already this book has been worth it's weight in gold. The writer recommends that you use it as a reference rather than read it cover to cover. However, it is surprisingly easy to read. It is interesting and informative. There are sections which go into greater details about certain things - if you want to read them. If you don't, it doesn't affect the way things are explained in the book. Well written and informative and worth every penny. If you are the parent of a T1 child or teen, this is a must have.

... son who is newly diagnosed and find it really useful to dip into if either of us have any ...
got this for my 17 year old son who is newly diagnosed and find it really useful to dip into if either of us have any questions. Not sure reading it from cover to cover would be great, but excellent as a source of reference.

great to use as a reference guide
A great book to use as a reference guide, you can skip to any section which you need to read up on, I have yet to read it all as not all sections are for me but you will find it very useful. Ignore the children reference it is also for adults

Superb book for people living with Type 1 diabetes and those who support them, including healthcare professionals
A superb book. Easy to read straight or as reference material as it is well divided up. Clearly expressed technical detail that makes it quality for healthcare professionals and people with type 1 diabetes who want to understand this condition and its management better. Probably the best all round book ok on Type 1 diabetes I've ever read

brilliant!
as a young adult recently been diagnosed with type 1 this book is brilliant! it explains everything clearly in an easy way, not so simple that it makes you feel stupid, but not too complex that gets too far into the science.

for beginners or experienced
Great book I have learnt a lot more from even though we've been on our type 1 journey for 2 years.

Brilliant, interesting book for diabetics on insulin
Fantastic book, don't be fooled that's it's only for young people there is an awful lot of relevant stuff for adults. I found a lot of information I hadn't found elsewhere which is proving to be useful, highly recommend

This is the bible of Diabetes type 1
As a parent of a 4 year old with Diabetes type 1, this book has given me understanding of diabetes type 1, theory and practice. My only regret is that is not available in ebook format as it would be very useful to have it in my iPad for travelling.
