Based on the best-selling books by Colin Dann, The Animals of Farthing Wood captivated both children and adults alike with its tale of a group of wild animals driven out of their woodland home by urban developers. With notably strong characters and storylines, the series pulled no punches in depicting the animals' struggle for survival amid conflict, predation and the harshness of the elements in a world in which joy and tragedy exist side by side. This globally successful, BAFTA-nominated show ran for three series of 39 episodes, all of which are included in this set. When the bulldozers move in, the inhabitants of Farthing Wood know it's time to move on. Rallied by the firm-but-fair Fox, they set out on their long journey towards the sanctuary of White Deer Park a journey fraught with danger.

Such a classic!
This was my favourite TV show when I was little.I had all the VHS tapes that were released but this is the ENTIRE episode collection.I remember hoping so badly they would release on dvd. This show was both brutal to watch for heartbreaking scenes/deaths of animals that traumatised me when I was so young. I bet I still cry watching it now too.Am trying to do nice things for myself that I used to enjoy as a child and since this was my favourite I’ve decided to rewatch them and re-read the books too.The soundtrack was so ahead of its time.I would love this to be remade into a movie.Such a classic! My inner child is loving it.The foxes were always my favourites.

Great Series, Decent Quality DVDs.
First off I would like to say the series itself is fantastic. I remember watching it when I was little and it's still great. BBC you really are my favourite...I can never understand how people need to point out how easy it is to change the language... Your DVD player remotes have an audio button/option in the options/set-up menu which allows you to switch easily between available languages. For those watching on computers (I have noticed one or two people saying they can't change the language), it depends on which media player you are using on how exactly you do it but most times you simply right click, go into audio (possibly audio track) and select the language.Moving right past that, the item arrived earlier than expected which was nice. The images are so beautiful... To be able to watch this again and be able to SEE things is brilliant! Even if it is only 4:3.The sound in English does fade in and out a bit I noticed but it's still watchable and still far better than what I (and I'm sure many others) was using before. The first episode kept skipping back to the start about half way through when I went to play all but appeared to work fine through the "select episode" option. Hopefully everything continues to work well (I haven't even finished the first season yet so fingers crossed nothing goes wrong).

The Animals Of Farthing Wood finally arrives on DVD!
I still love watching this as much now as I did when it first aired in the early/mid 90's. The show is about a group of animals(Fox, Badger, Mole, Toad, Owl, Kestrel, Weasel, Adder, Hares, Rabbits, Squirrels and more) whose home Farthing Wood is being destroyed by humans building on it. The animals convene and Toad suggest a place of sanctuary, White Deer Park, that they can go to. However, before they leave they all swear an oath to protect each other and not harm one another. Along the way they encounter dangers; a fire, a river, the hunt, a motorway, poisoned land etc that provides excitement and suspense. But it also provides heart warming scenes and humour. The show never shied away from showing children the harsh realities of real life for these animals either and not all of them make it to their destination. The following two series within the Park are both really strong too and new dangers, conflicts and characters are introduced. The Animals of Farthing Wood displays interesting themes for a 'children's show' such as death, wildlife conservation, love, friendship, leadership, racism, greed and power. Adults and children alike can enjoy this show and if any adult is unsure of purchasing this DVD for themselves don't be! BUY IT! You won't regret it. Truly one of the best animated shows of all time!

My all time Childhood Favourite
So recieved my copy of The Animals Of Farthing Wood just yesterday morning and had to watch it straight away. I have currently watch both series 1 and 2 but still need to watch series 3.But the dvds are just epic. Bringing back to many memories of when I was 8 coming home from school and putting on the cbbc channel. The story for series 1 is where the animals have to leave Farthing wood on search for White deer park and the many complication they have to endure on there journey there. Some scenes in this series are very sad to watch with some death scenes like Mr and Mrs Heghog getting run over by a lorry was very upsetting to watch and the Field mice children.Series 2 continues from the point from where the animals have arrived at white deer park but have a feud with the blue foxes and the many dark themes storylines that happen.Don't no what to say about series 3 as I havnt got round to watching it as yet.But am so happy with my DVD and glad it's finally been released :D as I used to have some of the VHS copies that I bought with the magazines but havnt been able to watch since my vcr broke on me. But this is well worth more the 5 stars I think in my book. The picture and sound are all good for a early 1993-1995 kids show with no problems at all.
