If you like collecting toys...
There are a plethora of guitar and bass FX pedals, all manufactured in China, and selling under different brand names for around the £2o mark.I call these "pocket money pedals" which probably explains my collection of a few dozen such pedals, all ready to connect together; kinda like Lego bricks when I was a kid.I must admit that some make quite outstanding toys given their price but unfortunately the Kokko FCP2 Compressor is not one which I play with much.Of course, a compressor priced at £2o is not going to compete with, say, a Boss pedal costing significantly more. However, technology-wise I would expect this pedal to rival a simple push button compressor - of the ilk that would have been supplied as an integral part of an early 8os, mid-priced, consumer market bass amp - which is about as basic as compression gets in my experience i.e., an on/off button + a compression level control; end of; no make-up gain, etc. - in other words, "If it's compression you want, you'll pay for it in terms of a significant loss in output volume."To be fair, the petite Kokko looks fine. The construction seems solid, the sockets appear fit for purpose and the latching mechanism is fine. It's also got three controls, although I can't tell why.You see, try as I might, this pedal doesn't even match the technology described above (designed nearly half a century ago). It is extremely noisy, only sounds acceptable in true bypass mode, and the "compression" is horrible, no matter where I put it in the signal chain or how I configure the three controls. Simply put, not a good use of a week's pocket money. As above, iIt's a toy, but not one I play with much.HOWEVER, would I but another Kokko pedal? Of course I would; the risk of being sold a dud is part of the fun about buying pedals in this price bracket. In fact, with the branding policies applied to these pedals, I've probably already got at least one pedal under a different name but made by the same OEM as supply Kokko.

Brilliant tone shaping
This (surprisingly) adds loads of wonderful crunchy tones to my various guitar sounds. I use a valve amp (Fender Bluesbreaker) with a Strat, Gibson Victory and Ibanez Jazz guitar. On the right setting it really enhances the sound of all three with a wonderful warm "crunchy" sound. I'm using it not only as something to control volume, but to further enhance tone.It doesn't seem the sexiest of pedals, but when you want a lead with a touch of warmth - heaven!

Great value
This is an excellent value pedal. My pedal board is only used for messing about in my study, playing along to stuff as I use Amplitube for recording, so I only need simple, cheap pedals. BUT no-one wants to pay for garbage, so I was glad to find this works a treat. The sustain function really does what you'd hope, making notes ring out almost as long as the Sustainer on my Jackson PC-1! And testing the pedal using a Strat and a clean tone was a bit of an eye opener as it really fills out the sound and makes it all that bit more pleasing and, well, fun to play! This, along with the Donner delay and a mini tube screamer is a great staring point for any guitarist.

NIce Pedal
I initially bought this as I was looking for a compression pedal and wanted to try one before paying lots. Now I don't need to as this satisfies my needs on its own. Great pedal to have first in the chain makes a big difference to my sound, particularly for my single coil pickup guitars. This was a good investment and pleased with it.

Simple must have great value for money pedal
For the cash this is great. Compression really is the one under rated pedal that makes a big difference to your sound and is worth investing in. I didn't like the compression options on a good multi effects unit I had and this cheap pedal is better. There actually feels like quite a lot of range for the price. I'm sure there are better compressors out there as I'm sure I'd hear the difference if I was really cranking up my amp, but the price is so great for anyone playing at home that this is a good investment

Budget. Does what it says - but noisy.
Ok, so it's not expensive and well built, but if the level is raised above one quarter, there's a lot of hiss. However, it is useful for sustaining notes over a couple of bars without the initial transient plucking sound, creating the drone needed for some modern worship songs, such as from Bethel. Having used this, I'd consider buying a more capable one.

Very nice
Works like a charm. Sustain is good, no unwanted feedback, but you can create it if you want to. Attack level sensitivity is great. Doesn't pickup or cause any noise. Just got it, so can't vouch for its durability, but will update if anything changes

The place to start your fx chain
Good value cheap Chinese compressor. Does the job for bass and guitar, everything from surging basslines to chickenpicking on guitar. It's the place to start any fx board. It's got glow in the dark knobs too
