Finally on region two dvd. The Addams Family
THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE REGION TWO DVD RELEASE OF THE ADDAMS FAMILY MOVIE [1991]. NOT OF THE VHS RELEASE OR THE REGION ONE RELEASE. I MENTION THIS BECAUSE THE AMAZON SYSTEM WILL DOUBTLESS LUMP THEM ALL TOGETHER.1991 saw the big screen release of the Addams Family, a film version of the popular cartoons/tv series. A sequel, Addams Family Values, followed a few years later. Both films came out on VHS. But whilst the latter has been available on region two dvd for many years, the former never has. Presumably due to rights issues [see IMDBS page for the film as the trivia section does mention a lawsuit].However....Whatever thing were holding it up have obviously now been resolved, because here it is at last. A region two dvd release of the film.Yes, all you people who brought it off Amazon not reading the bit about dvd regions and ended up posting one star reviews as a result can now try again. Because this version will work fine.If you're in Europe, Middle East, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Greenland, French Overseas departments and territories, that is. Because that is region two. Anywhere else, go and look up dvd regions on wikipedia. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, French, Castilian, German, Italian.Subtitles: English, French, Castilian, Dutch, German, Italian. There are no trailers at the start of the disc. Just a few short intro screens, so it will take you to the main menu very quickly. The only extras are the two original cinema trailers for the film. The picture on these and the film hasn't been cleaned up, and the logo screens on them do show that quite clearly. But the picture quality once past that is fine. The picture ratio for the film is 16:9 widescreen 1.85.1.And the film - although you've had two decades or more to watch it by now, so you really should know this - has lots of style, a rather slight story, but the cast all get into their roles with gusto and it's a lot of fun to watch. It's nice to have it on region two dvd at last. Anyone want to buy a used VHS copy? You'll find it listed on Amazon marketplace. Going cheap....UPDATE. It's sold. Thanks.

Gorgeous!
Quite possibly one of the best films from the 90's?! Well I certainly think so, almost everyone you will meet will have most likely have seen this movie and now it's on Blu Ray! Trust me, it looks stunning, all the colours and the details of the mansion really shine in the Blu Ray, that you just don't get to see in on the TV or DVD version. Fantastic performances from Christopher Lloyd who plays Fester! Truly outstanding actor, you wouldn't quite believe that is the same man who plays Doc Brown in "Back to the Future" and of course his brother Gomez Addams played by the very late Raul Julia, couldn't really imagine anyone else to play Gomez Addams, he's fantastic! And of course the children played a very young Christina Ricci (Wednesday Addams) and Jimmy Workman (Pugsley), together they make a fantastic performance!Great movie for children and families! Yes okay its different from the TV series, but nonetheless this movie was very well made considering it was produced in 1991. If you are massive fan, I highly highly recommend you get this on Blu Ray and add it to your collection, now just waiting for Addams Family Values to have a Blu Ray release!

Amazing Blu-Ray transfer
Sometimes when these older films (and sometimes not so old) are transferred to Blu-Ray, the work is appalling. Such is not the case with this one."The Addams Family" is one of my all-time favourite films and I never really understood all the bashing it got that led to the sparse production of DVDs of it. The film is solid, there are plenty of references to the original cartoons...it's the ultimate Addams Family film.I have been waiting for this film to be released on Blu-Ray and the result could not be better. There's no grain, the colours are crisp and vibrant, everything is spot on.The only "problem" I have with this is that there's nothing else apart from the 2 theatrical trailers. No cool extras nor anything alike. HOWEVER there's one thing to praise in the "theatrical trailers". Unlike other editions of old films, the image of the theatrical trailers was also restored. The sound wasn't on the 1st trailer but the picture was in both, which is remarkable.Get this! And I hope they don't take long before releasing "The Addams Family Values" on Blu-Ray.Also, for those in the USA or other countries: this release, unlike what Amazon.co.uk says, IS region FREE.

Another great film from the 1990s
what a classic film from the early 1990s, I remember one year, maybe no t long after the film came out everyone was dressing up as the Adams family for Halloween!! It was another decent find on Amazon and of course and DVD from the 1980s and 1990s so long as it is the right price, and they generally are on Amazon, I will buy
