A good place to start if new to this art technique
🖼️ Pentel🖼️ OIL PASTELS🖼️ Ref : PHN-50ooOoo‘Made in Thailand’From the back of the box (multi-lingual):‘Pastels apply smoothly and blend easily for subtle shades, tints and colour mixtures.Ideal for most types of paper, as well as canvas, oil and acrylic boards.'ooOooThis is a neat set of 50 x OIL PASTEL STICKs.The cellophane-wrapped, cardboard box measures around 25.5 cm x 16 cm x 1.5 cm and has two transparent strips on the front showing the tips of the various colours of the sticks contained within. Once unwrapped, the cardboard base slides out of the sleeve, where the sticks are on an inner plastic-type tray, protected by a lift-off, transparent, plastic-type cover.A strange odour is quite noticeable once the box is open which might not appeal to all. This transfers to fingers with the inevitable residue, but is easy to wash off with soap & water ~ even the darker colours ~ and I protect my work surface before I start, if the going is likely to get very messy! In two rows of 25 formation, starting with WHITE running through to BLACK with a variety of shades of colour in between, each stick measures around 8 mm in diameter and stands around 6 cm tall. The COLOUR CODE NUMBER & COLOUR NAME are at the bottom of the paper wrapper. The colours in my pack are (1 of each):COLOUR CODE/COLOUR🌿 NAPLES YELLOW : 31🌿 LEMON YELLOW : 1🌿 CHROME YELLOW : 5🌿 YELLOW : 12🌿 YELLOW ORANGE : 2🌿 ORANGE : 3🌿 PALE ORANGE LIGHT : 34🌿 PALE ORANGE : 4🌿 SALMON PINK : 36🌿 PALE VERMILION : 35🌿 PINK : 15🌿 ROSE MADDER : 39🌿 VERMILION : 10🌿 SCARLET : 37🌿 CRIMSON LAKE : 38🌿 RED : 11🌿 OLD ROSE : 20🌿 HYACINTH VIOLET : 40🌿 PURPLE : 13🌿 VIOLET : 92🌿 PALE BROWN : 7🌿 YELLOW OCHRE : 6🌿 OCHRE : 33🌿 BROWN : 8🌿 DARK CARMINE : 27🌿 INDIAN RED : 45🌿 VANDYKE BROWN : 9🌿 PALE GREEN : 55🌿 YELLOW GREEN : 17🌿 OLIVE GREEN : 53🌿 GREEN : 21🌿 GREEN GRAY : 19🌿 BLUE GREEN : 16🌿 DEEP GREEN : 22🌿 DARK GREEN : 57🌿 PALE BLUE : 14🌿 BLUE : 51🌿 COBALT BLUE : 23🌿 ULTRAMARINE LIGHT : 52🌿 ULTRAMARINE : 25🌿 PRUSSIAN BLUE LIGHT : 54🌿 PRUSSIAN BLUE : 24🌿 YELLOW GRAY : 46🌿 LIGHT GRAY : 47🌿 GRAY : 26🌿 DEEP GRAY : 49🌿 DARK GRAY : 48🌿 BLACK : 28along with : 🌿 WHITE : 29 (x 2 supplied)...but it should be noted that the right to replace a colour is reserved, if necessary. In use, these are a creamy texture and the bright colours are rich & vivid, although the paler colours still lay down a good layer of colour, with little pressure. In my experience, they do leave some residue on the paper, the amount depending on the texture, which can be hard to remove without leaving a mark or a smudge. They are quite narrow sticks, so some care needs to be taken not to snap the stick if too heavy handed, but others turn this to their advantage. I have been generally amazed by the skill of others, via various online tips & clips, particularly the brilliant one-minute, ‘Pentel’ demonstration video:👁️ ‘Drawing an eye using oil pastels’Certainly drawing my eye...it is way too fast for me...but a standard to aspire to has truly been set!Other size sets of Pentel OIL PASTEL STICKS currently available include: 12 16 25 36 [20 images attached]

Excellent value
Large array of colours great value. Good for both beginners or experienced.Very dramatic in depth of colour, oil pastels aren’t as easy to blend as soft pastels are but one can achieve some subtlety by diluting.

Really good oil pastels
I really enjoy using these oil pastel, though at first they were not easy to blend in but once I started to draw with them, they warmed up a bit which was easy to blend with them also they have a good choice of colours to use and they are good value for its money and I would recommend these to anyone who loves to draw...

Good colour from these oil pastels, adds to your sketches, useful for beginners and experts alike
Liked the ease of use of oil pastels and the ability to vary pressure to create colour density and form. The price is very user friendly for me. Not much I don't like about pentel products.

Good value and surprisingly good quality student grade oil pastels.
It's good to be pleasantly surprised. I already owned a set of 25 Pentel oil pastels which were okay and since I only use the student grade for studies had decided that the 50 set was good value for so many colours. (It's a no-brainer when you compare costs with a premium artists brand unless you intend to make finished pieces. )I found the 50 set, which is made in Thailand, to be better quality than the 25 set, that was made in Taiwan. They are smoother, easier to blend, crumb less and are more highly pigmented than my other set is. There is a good range of greens, yellows, earths and greys which suit landscape painters like me. They are small though -roughly half the size of other student ones - and the dark shades are hard to identify since the name is printed in black onto the colour on the label, which makes making your own colour chart essential. If you haven't used them before do assume that they will indelibly stain fabrics and light surfaces and go everywhere.Of course these don't compare to the premium brands in size or light fastness. But they work really well on black paper where scraping back is fun, as well as on more conventional colours, make an interesting addition to mixed media and are fun to mess around with.(See photo - with apologies to C.R.Mackintosh.)The low cost and relatively high quality of these oil pastels makes them eminently suitable for kids, beginners and anyone who wants to try them as an extra medium without spending a lot.
