Spawn: Origins Book 2: 02 (SPAWN ORIGINS HC)

Average Story; Compelling & Dynamic Artwork!
McFarlane's artwork has been a huge inspiration for me for several years, ironically only now I've had chance to check out the first few issues of his hit title character: Spawn. Honestly these comics weren't what I was expecting, the story is a little dull throughout the twelve issues however some moments do shine; mainly 'Questions, Part 1-4' and the final few issues, I got a little bored during the middle of the book. The final product is presented fantastically! The cover shows the awesome artwork by Greg Capullo with very simple typography which makes it standout; an advantage of owning two copies allows you visualise the whole wraparound cover artwork. My only disappointment with the cover is that is doesn't showcase a re-imagining of the issue #1 cover.Besides containing twelve issues this book also contains a forward by Dave Sim regarding the problems they had with issue #10, at the end you get to see the inking of all twelve covers, a couple of scans of the original art and additional promo artwork. My final verdict on this is it's a visual masterpiece however the story is a little dull, however I don't regret this purchase, having this to look back on and see the outstanding and incredible artwork by McFarlane is very fascinating and doesn’t disappoint for the reasons before reading this book. I’ve been attached to his artwork and this delivered more than I expected from the artistic and visual stand point; not from the story; I’m a little sceptical on purchasing ‘Book 2.’

Amazing!
The reason I bought this book is because I heard about the character and had seen his characteristics. I'm a huge batman fan and just one look at spawn made me interested. First I watched the movie which wasn't great but I some how knew that it wasn't a great representation of spawn. Then I watched the animated series which is amazing! Which in turn maybe me interested in the comic and I have to say it is better than both the movie and the animated it keeps you reading, every page you want to know what happens next and the cliffhanger at the end is amazing I love spawn he is now my second favourite super hero (batman first) and I have already ordered the second book in this amazing series and can't wait to read it,

Beautiful presentation to an excellent series of books
I bought this as I missed out on the original comic series when it started back in the 90's.When it arrived, I was particularly impressed by the size and quality of the book and I thought " yeah,I'm going to collect these ".I personally love the artwork, it's so vibrant and bold when put with a decent story, it makes a really good read.I've just finished book 1 and have ordered up to book 9 which is out the end of August.Seriously good series of books and will look great in your collection.Spawn is a genuine gritty hero that rivals even Superman's greatness in my opinion. Wrong information describing the book!
This book comprises the numbers 13 to 25 after "Original Collection Book 1".If you notice the description above in Amazon's page (and plenty more sites) the issue numbers are wrong! And I am glad!! because I was afraid to order and receive repeated stories inside the book ... and there aren't any.

Some very good stories
Fascinating stories that showed me why the Spawn had so much success. The gentle Spawn being deceived by an Angel (for a greater good, of course) is something very pleasant to read.

The ONLY accurate review of this hardcover edition
Apologies to the other reviewers but there seems to be a deal of confusion regarding this hardcover collection of the first twelves issues of Spawn, due in no small measure to the simultaneous publication of 12-issue hardbacks and 6-issue paperbacks under the same 'Origins Collection' banner. Seeing as I've just noticed this review pop up under other products' pages, this is the book I'm reviewing - Spawn: Origins Book 1 What THIS book contains is the first twelves issues of Spawn for the first time in a single volume ever (discounting the out-of-print special edition of this book which you won't be finding any time soon for less than an obscene amount of money), so you get eight issues from McFarlane and one each from Dave Sim, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore and Frank Miller. Honestly, this is Spawn at its absolute best, back when it was brimming with promise and before said promise settled into one of the most prolonged stretches of fancily-written, goregously-illustrated but ultimately progress-free runs in comics history. The art here is courtesy of Todd himself (Greg Capullo has yet to show up) and as ever it looks spectacular, particularly in this oversized presentation. If you're curious about this edition in particular, it's the same size as Marvel's oversized line (such as their Omnibus series). The artwork is printed on the book which doesn't come with a dust jacket and features a matte white with the image of Spawn battling Violator in gloss. The book has a sewn binding which is quite stiff but the very middle suffers from no gutter loss. In terms of extras, there's snippets from interviews with Todd that act as a foreward and afterward as well as being interspersed between issues, and 33 pages of extras which comprise original pencilled and inked pages, older trade covers and the Capullo covers for the two paperback Origins Collections (which are missing two of the issues collected here). Perhaps most interesting is a foreward for issue 10 (the Dave Sim Cerebus issue) in which Sim explains why it's never been reprinted before now as well as shedding some light on why the four-issue run of guest writers came about. The spine for this volume is perfectly synchronous with those of the following volumes with only the numbering and the colour of the skull and text changed. All in all, it's a beautiful book and to date the nicest mass-produced version of these early stories. The Spawn Collection books that were in publication a few years ago were better value in that they contained twenty issues apiece and cost less, but these volumes are gorgeous, uniform and for the first time for Spawn collections, tastefully executed. I look forward to picking up the rest of the books, but for nostalgic value this is the best there is.***As ever, I keep an eye on the comments section, so if you'd like to know anything about the book please ask below.***
