Powerex MH-C800S 8-Cell Smart Charger for AA/AAA NiMH/NiCD,Grey

I use a lot of batteries and very early decided that rechargeables were the most practical option. I became aware that whilst the charger I used 'worked' there was a gradual decline in the performance of my batteries. Research on line directed my attention to the Powerex charger I have no regrets about making the decision to buy this eight cell smart charger. It has rejuvenated the oldest of my batteries and it recharges effectively and in a reasonably short time. The device is well made and I expect that it will perform well for a long time to come, (I will post again if it fails to deliver). I feel sure that I will be enjoying the value long after I have forgotten the price.

I am writing this review exactly four years after purchasing this charger. We use A LOT of rechargeable batteries and I wanted a 'professional' quality charger: one that could re-condition the batteries, have the ability to charge each battery independently and have more than the standard four slots. From all the positive reviews, this charger certainly sounded promising. Now four years on it has stopped working. OK, some might say that four years is not bad, but I have cheaper chargers that are far older. I was also never impressed by the display - very faint and so difficult to read. Finally, I have re-inserted batteries that the charger has just finished charging only to find that it shows the same battery as only half charged! Back to my old cheap charger for now until I find a decent replacement. Not at all impressed by this charger.

I bought this around 6 months ago after previously having the Uniross 15 minute charger that started failing to charge properly. This charger charges individual batteries and also rejuvenates old rechargeable batteries that my uniross wouldn't even read anymore...It really is a fantastic charger and was worth the money even though it was quite pricey! If mine broke tomorrow i wouldn't hesitate in buying another, it is that good! Top Tip: Buy Eneloop batteries for your digital camera as they last far longer than any other rechargeable batteries! This charger charges 8 Eneloop batteries in around 1 hour.

This is one of those products you buy because you're fed up of using cheap chargers that don't do the job properly. This one seems to be in a league of it's own. Batteries I would have thrown away - sorry, recycled - have now been given a new lease of life. Should have got it sooner.

First use and it has destroyed 6 of the eight batteries I put in it???? I have used those batteries quite a few times and recharged them a few times without any problem. Now it has cooked them even though they were on soft charge. The first pic shows a cooked battery alongside a properly chraged one. The second shows all eight together. The two on the left are properly charged , rest 6 have got bubbles. The last shows them in the charger- only the first and third from the right are charged properly. rest all cooked. Of course returned the charger as it is rubbish.

My first unit died after a couple of charges with the display constantly flashing at me. The supplier in germany replaced within a few days and so far it has worked flawlessly. I got it because very often I am charging 8 AA's at a time or some odd number and with it's ability to do 1-8 independantly it's a lifesaver.

This is a very good charger. It does make a clicking noise when it's charging but doesn't seem to affect the performance of charging so all is good. Seems to work charging AA and AAA batteries. The AAA batteries are a bit more fiddly to insert and take out but still does the job.

Comes with a 2 pin plug which is not compatible with UK sockets.
