I think this is brilliant. It clips easily onto any of the saxes and, with it, you can hear exactly what you sound like (volume, tone ,intonation), whether during practice or in wind band rehearsal. For example, it has helped me tackle a tone differential between lower and upper register, because I can hear directly what alterations to embouchure etc. actually do. In the band situation, when the bari part goes up high, it is easy to get lost in the alto 'wash'. The Deflector means you can hear what you are playing and adjust accordingly.Yes, you can get the same effect by playing to a wall and, yes, it is a bit pricey, but for me, it's a great bit of kit that has really helped.

Not effective
This was not good value for the money - a plastic disc and a clip. Did not have much effect. No way near as good as playing my saxophone against a wall

Great but pricey
As a piece of kit this is great, gives a much better idea of how you actually sound, great for tuning and dynamics. Highly recommended if you are serious about improving your playing. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't so expensive- it's only a lump of plastic for crying out loud. If you had a bit if time you could probably make something similar for a fraction of the price

Great bit of kit for all saxophonists.
Excellent service delivered earlier than quoted, works really well on alto, tenor, soprano and baritone saxes great for practicing or stage use, will most probably get another as a spare for the gig bag, ever item jazz labs makes are good quality.

Outrageous price for cheap plastic item.
Plastic cheap, clip simple, price ridiculous. Will be sending it back.

Four Stars
Very good for playing in a dead room. You hear everything.

Easy to fit no damage to the instrument
This product returns the sound to you in a similar way playing in front of a mirror does allowing you to hear the sound which is heard out front.

Pretty good but.....
It did give good sonic feedback, but as for being as good as a wall?.....Wellllll. Sorry, can't agree. On the bandstand? Yes! Most definitely, where you need some feedback (not electronic of course - der!) for your sound, but also need to project to the mike/audience etc, hence the space in the reflectors design (of course). But for solo practice, that space is a detriment. I wish they had included an INSERT to go in that space so you get a FULL reflection of the sound, as it obviously allows some of the sound to escape. A wall however reflects everything. Put an insert into the design and I'd probably give it five stars. It JUST fits in my sax case too so is ideal for portability. I think I would have preferred a clip to attach to my sax, rather than a screw assembly. A bit too much fiddling about tightening etc. But at least it is secure. It seems quite sturdy and not prone to breakage. Time will tell. Now, fix that gap!

Most will be disappointed.
When it first arrived, I set it up and tried it in my practice room. The effect was very minimal. I tried it at a rehearsal and the effect all but disappeared. Back at my room, I tried taping a larger piece of plastic to the reflector and it worked!!! Of course, I was a hazard to everyone and everything around me within striking range! I had one more idea…I taped a piece of plastic over the hole and it doubled the effect. The device is now usable although weak.I would however note that the device has a weak point…the tab on the plastic reflector that fits into the clamp will break off eventually (or sooner) and then you will have to pay out the extremely high price for a new unit since the reflector is not replaceable. The clamp is very well designed but not worth the over fifty dollar price tag.

Great for smaller horns
I love using the deflector on my alto and tenor, but it has minimal effect on my baritone saxophone. I can't blame it, as it wasn't really designed with the size in mind. I bet if the hole in the middle was able to be covered somehow, maybe a sliding piece embedded in the design, it would make a huge difference. Overall great product for alto and tenor players and bari players will get some but not optimal use out of it. I hear putting tape over the hole makes a big difference. Haven't tried it yet, but I plan to in the future. Overall, highly recommend this product for all saxophone players.
