Lucky Peach Issue 24: The Best of Lucky Peach

So sorry to see it go.

Unhappily I came to Lucky Peach after it had stopped publishing. I found this issue to be full of great writing which I read with great sadness knowing that the magazine is NO MORE, as well as an end to the wonderful series Ugly Delicious and Parts Unknown. With tears I read Anthony Bourdain's piece in the issue. Ah, Anthony, how could you??? Why do great things have to end? But now with curiousity and appetite as a result of the articles, I now want to travel the world in search of all that deliciousness and also the other issues!

Sorry to see you go Lucky Peach. I've enjoyed everything you gave us. It's now a sad day when I can't wait until the next issue arrives.

I wasn't familiar with Lucky Peach other than the Asian recipes and power vegetables cookbooks. So those of you who are already familiar with it may think this review is too harsh. My goal here is to alert the people whose familiarity with Lucky Peach is as mine was.This book wasn't what I expected. The bulk of it seemed to be written by and for males who, based on their writing, seem to regret being past their adolescent days. There are also a few fans of chefs articles, an article on eating too much in New Orleans, an article about cooking penises (yes, I wrote "penises") and one on the search for authenticity (spoiler alert: the author decides he doesn't know).The one redeeming feature, and the reason I will retain the issue, is that it has what looks to be a delicious recipe for a chocolate cake microwaved in a mug. I awarded the second star for that recipe.

I'm still very sad about the closing down of Lucky Peach, it was the best food magazine in history. This is a great tribute. The Ramen Dip recipe is my favorite easy tasty party recipe.

This is s great intro/primer to Lucky Peach. RIP Lucky Peach. I got this as a gift for a foodie friend and now she's hunting down individual issues.

I read all Lucky Peach magazines and have since issue 2. Always great.
