Given that this item is designed to carry a weight of coal you might expect the handles on it to have a decent rolled edge to stop them digging into your hands? Not so I’m afraid. Perhaps ok for decorative or occasional use but humping coal twice a day is going to be, quite literally, a pain.Also I can advise that the circumference of the top rim is just a bit big for loading a Rayburn Royal. Not a fault, obviously, just an observation.Looks ok, light when empty... it’s really just those handles.

It a reasonably good coal scuttle that looks OK and holds a fair amount of coal. After a couple of years the base of ours started to wear through because the metal is quite thin. More rounded handles would be better too but the flat ones don't dig in to your hand too much even when it's full. Just about right at the price I think.

This was a gift for my sister and her family, The feedback I got from her was that the colour was perfect, style perfct but for them the size was a little on the small size. They live in the countryside and rely on coal for their fire whereas I'm in the city and don't appreciate how awful it is to have to keep going outside in the freezing cold to fill it up! If you are after a smallish skuttle to keep you going for a few hours then this is fine but if you want to get 12 hours worth then you'll need something bigger.

This is a beautifully made skuttle, no sharp edges and easy to use. I estimate that it holds around 8kg of coal, I get 20kg bags and I get 2 and a half fills out of it.

I wish I didn't have to buy this on the internet but no shops here sell them. This one does the job, but the handles are a little sharp. I've wrapped a lot of tape around them to make them more user-friendly.
