Rise: The Brand New Autobiography

Kindle book - purchased as a Christmas present
I personally have not read this yet. Purchased for my other half who is a big rugby fan. English but a massive South African rugby follower, having spent time following the Lions tour in 2009. We both love Siya and think that he is not only an excellent rugby player but also a great leader and a true advocate for rugby. My partner devoured this book in a few days. He found it to be fascinating and loved the reference to lots of other players being a Stormers & Western province rugby fan. He thought that Siya came across as very humble and showed a great deal of respect to his managers. He was a little disappointed that it did not cover the world cup 2023 but this took nothing away from the book. Brilliant read.

A real Page turner
I got this for myself for Christmas after falling in love with Rugby and the Springboks all over again watching the 2023 World Cup.I saw in the 2023 team what South Africa can be like united. This book is a page turner and I am finding it hard to put it down. Definitely worth a read. Siya Kolisi is definitely the right man to lead the Springboks. Hopefully we ll get another book from him after the next world cup win 🏆🇿🇦

Servant King...
A really great insight into Springbok "sacred" culture, but also an authentic and humble reflection of an individual graduating through different levels in life and recognising the grace/help occurring at each stage through the lens of gratitude. I was at the Qatar airways cup final in Twickenham last weekend and watched him with my own eyes filling the water bottles for all the players on field = servant king...the real deal...

Great read
An easy read and quite entertaining and enlightening. A must for any Bok fan I think. Inspirational, and I think incredibly lucky too, Siya is aware of this and is open and honest - including with his flaws - which makes him all the more likeable. There were parts of the book which I didn’t enjoy - retelling the Brighton game not the least, along with talking in tongues - but I think more with how hey sat with me. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book.

Brilliant!
If you enjoy rugby you’ll enjoy this autobiography. Siya tells his story of rages to riches in South Africa. He also details his story of faith. There are details of several Springbok rugby games which is exciting to read. I couldn’t put it down!

Amazing Read! For rugby fans and humankind fans!
What a story - I love rugby so this was a must read for me. But I came away with more appreciation, respect and awareness of the struggle to perform at such an elite level - balancing family, upbringing and finding pockets of kindless to keep you on the journey. Fantastic!

Wonderful read
There’s no question Siya Kolisi’s story is a powerful one, simply by nature of the two extremes of reality he has experienced. But I admire his commitment to using that story, both the sufferings and the successes together, for making positive change.Rise is well written, an enjoyable chronology crescendoing with the lifting of the greatest prize in rugby, and continuing up until the 2021 Lions Tour. I enjoyed watching highlights or full replays as I read his insights into the many key matches he’s played in, particularly through the RWC.Throughout the book, Kolisi speaks candidly about his faith without forcing it upon the reader. His love of South Africa in all it’s broken beauty is as much a theme of the book as it is of the man himself. His passion for fighting against gender-based violence is as powerful as his tackling, an inspiration and solid reminder for every man who reads it. And his discussion of his commitment to doing good works in South Africa with the platform he has both been given, and earned for himself, make this autobiography a worthwhile read.I also thoroughly enjoyed the photos at the end, each picture made even more special knowing the journey that preceded it.It’s enough to make this All Blacks fan proud of the Springboks winning the Rugby World Cup again!!
