GUYKU: A Year of Haiku for Boys Hardcover – Picture Book, October 4, 2010

My four kids and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I especially love reading and writing haiku. Guyku brought back my amazing childhood years in the early 1980s when I played outdoors and enjoyed nature with my siblings and friends. Thank you for inspiring me with your beautiful haiku poems. =)

The Guyku's are engaging, familar experiences we have all had or watched our children have during the four seasons. My husband and I laughed out loud as we remembered our daughters splashing in puddles, skipping stones, building dams, and even complaining about mosquitos. The book is not just for boys.I borrowed the book from the library for a very low level reading 7th grade boy whom I tutor. He doesn't like to read and will not sit still long for someone to read to him. These short images caught and held his attention for the entire book. So I have just purchased the book to give to him at the end of the year so he can read it to his parents this summer.

Perfect condition

I was blessed to have been asked to illustrate "Guyku." I have only enough time to do a few books a year, and so any collaborations must be ones that I really resonate with. Bob Raczka's poems immediately sent me back to my own childhood - wonderful memories where my backyard my playground. The book is sure to please any of the "guys" in your life. Gals can enjoy Guyku, but just in case they want to register their "protest" and demand "Galku" - they can visit the guykuhaiku website - a site packed with ideas and resources for any aspiring poet!

So much fun here for kids and grown ups, alike. Just read this with my 2nd grade guy, and we spent about an hour after writing our own haiku's and reading them to each other. My son really doesn't like writing, so I am beyond thrilled that we found inspiration for a writing afternoon. Two thumbs up!

One of the best children's poetry books. It will put a nice smile on your face and feel your heart with warm and cozy sensation. We are all in love with this book. Actually, our personal copy of the book we bought long time ago in our local book store, this one was bought as a present.

This book has so many wonderful, easy haiku poems. The illustrations are great, and I love the creativity within the structure of haiku poetry. I used this book to introduce haiku poetry to my students and show them how to illustrate their own poetry. My colleague liked the book so much, she bought it for her students as well!

My six-year-old grandson laughed his way through "Guyku", then called me to say, "I read it all the way through as soon as I got it!" My 88-year-old dad loved it too, and the pictures are perfect for the wacky outlook boys have on life.

I am a huge fan of Peter H. Reynolds art-work and bought this book specifically for this reason. However, with 2 sons who have fallen in love with the poetry it has become a go-to during our bedtime routine. Silly enough to appeal to little boys and yet simple and inspiring for adults. I love it!

Our children (girl age 4 and boy age 6) love these short and fulfilling poems. They are a great way to inspire your children and send them into daydreams and imaginary adventures.
