Adorable, heart warming, hot chocolate on a rainy day comic
I never got to go to university. My best friend did this year, and now I get to.experince a tiny sliver of uni life alongside 3 lovely girls who I feel like I know personally. This is honestly fast becoming my favourite comfort comic of all time. Before if even finished this comic my partner was ordering me the next SIX, I loved it so much. Please, please do yourself the favour of befriending Esther, Daisy and Susan. I promise you won't regret it.The art style is fresh and modern, with lovely colours, expressive and unique characters that spring to life both visually and in personality. I love love LOVE seeing them find their way in life and grow. The writing is superb, both funny and light-hearted AND moving.I love how queer inclusive it is,and I love all the random references to things I love, like the band Mastodon and Magic: The Gathering. All in all, if you're on the fence, this is your sign to DO IT buy this comic and grab your favourite drink. Just expect Esther to steal it before you can take a sip...

Love these girls!
Ah this is one of the gems I read when I was on my very long hiatus, I’ve read read everything that has been published so far and I know I may cry when this series end. Yes I love it.I never thought for the life of me that three girls going to university in England could be so delightful, Giant Days is a true gem. Let me introduce our girls -Susan Ptolemy - The one with the most common sense, she keeps the other two on the straight and narrow (most of the time), she’s a bit of a slob and you’ll be happy to learn she’s studying medicine!Esther de Groot - Goth goddess, fashion icon, attractor of men and women, drama queen, accident prone, student of English lit. Loyal friend. Life of the party.Daisy Wooton - She is said to 50% hair and 100% not ready for this world, she is sweet and innocent, raised by her loving granny. She is struggling a little with her sexuality and is definitely not prepared for drinking and partying. Archaeology student. They are polar opposites but as we all know opposites attract and these girls make a great team. In this first volume the girls deal with an influenza outbreak, Susan learns that her nemesis McGraw is attending the uni (think a young Ron Swanson) and fails to disguise her disgust at his being there (disgust of course in her case equal unrequited love), Esther attracts the attention of some disgusting boys and their online hottie list, and Daisy, well she has the most fun, She has a rather trippy night with the alluring Nadia and at the end of the night she befriends a talking pigeon.I love it, it looks lovely, it reads wonderfully, it makes me laugh and reminds me of my younger days. I really wish I was friends with these girls in real life!

Surprisingly enjoyed!
Wanted something quick to read, and found myself back at graphic novels, which I don’t tend to have a good history with. This one however, took me by surprise! It follows three young girls at the start of their college/university life, sharing a dorm. It reminded me so much of my earlier uni days, where a mash of people would just live together and become really close.I loved the way it explored sexuality, particularly with one of the characters “finding herself”.I’m off to go pick up the second one now!

A great comedy
Wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did. A sitcom on the page, I laughed out loud at quite a few of the set pieces.

Highly recommended with terrific artwork from Treiman who seems to me ...
Very clever comic about three girls in the first few weeks at Uni in England. At first the comic had an issue with its character dynamics as writing conflict amongst friends who aren't actually arguing but just conversing doesn't drive a story forward but by the third issue that dynamic has been replaced by actual conflicts and threats that our 3 leads get upset about. Relationships with each other, with significant others and with bullies and bastards are all explored and the quality of the dialogue is the sharpest I have seen in a comic since Nick Spencer's hilarious Morning Glories. Highly recommended with terrific artwork from Treiman who seems to me to have a slight Bryan Lee O'Malley bent (more Hopeless Savages than Scott Pilgrim). A shame it's only 4 issues in this trade but such is life. Eagerly awaiting publication of the second volume.

Fun
Spotted this in my Kindle recommended list (similar to some things Miss 12 has been checking out) so thought I’d give it a go. Didn’t find it laugh out loud funny, but fun & engaging. Love the illustrations.

Golden
John Allison has been charming people with his authorial voice for almost twenty years in the panels of ScaryGoRound, Bobbins and Bad Machinery. However, as both artist and writer, one feels he's always been constricted by what's possible to deliver when doing both jobs. Here, freed from the art duties by the marvelous Lissa Treiman, we see his characters take flight. As charming and whimsical as ever, Giant Days is a refreshing, honest, and hilarious look at the lives of three university students: their lives, loves and lunacies. One can only wonder what will happen when Allison really gets his teeth into the possibilities a longer format presents him with. Highly reccomended.
