The Adventures of Amilie
This is a delightful story about orphaned Amilie Jasperton who has come to visit her maternal grandparents which she is meeting for the first time. Amilie wants to ask them why they banished her mother, their only child, and never attempted a reconciliation. All of the characters are well developed, allowing the reader to love them or hate them according to their personalities. The story was marred only by the multitude of annoying typos. Each time someone pulled the bell chord or emitted peels of laughter, I lost another layer of tooth enamel. That loss has been charged back to the author in the form of a star.

Sweet and forgettable.
There is nothing wrong with this book. On the other hand, there is nothing to really recommend it. I read it. I enjoyed it. I don't know if I would read more by the author. This book is a short and sweet little story. The characters are mediocre and forgettable, and the plot is very easy to follow and predict. There is no intrigue, no hidden depth, no major character development; just a simple, sweet story. Candy for the brain. Sadly, that is all I have to say about it.

Very Slow, Mostly Boring
I thought this would be a nice piece of light reading, but it ended up being pretty boring. The author didn't create a lot of tension and it moved very slowly. I also thought there were some inconsistencies in the characterizations, and I hated the dialogue. Every sentence that comes out of every character's mouth is overly proper and ostentatious. I realize that upper class citizens of the 19th century would have spoken less casually than we do today, however nobody talks like that all of the time. And maids and grooms wouldn't be speaking the same way the landowners speak. It just bothered me and made it hard for me to get into the story. I thought the main characters weren't really well-done and I wasn't very invested in them.

Surprisingly good
I will admit I had reservations about this book, not that I haven't read a book from a different time period before, it was just I wasn't sure how the how romance thing would work. I was pleasantly surprised and the intensity and suspense of it was fantastic and I didn't even notice that I was close to the end of the book, I just wanted more of the story. Definitely can recommend it.

Not very exciting!
I don't remember why I selected this book. It is not a bad book, just very predictable. I credit the author with good research as to old English verbage. I am not sorry I read the book, however, I felt that I had read the same story with different names and places many times before.

Light reading
It was okay to pass the time and as a break between mystery thrillers, but there didn't seem to be much in the way of character development and the ending appeared rather abrupt. It would have been more enjoyable if the two lead characters had been fleshed out more. Fitzhugh, in particular, remained a mystery.

a fun rags to riches story
A fun story of an orphaned young lady who goes to live with grandparents, having never met them because of a rift between them and her mother. Having been raised the daughter of a poor pastor, she moves into the manor and needs a map just to navigate her way around. Somewhat predictable, but a sweet story of love, forgiveness and happy endings.

Disappointing
Typos and misspellings dominated this story. The story itself was not dreadful but lacked real interest or tension. The ending too abrupt and didn't have good resolution to several questions raised earlier. I skipped a bit but didn't feel I missed anything.

This is a pleasant story - but there is nothing to mark it out from many others of the same genre. It is a rather pale copy of a Georgette Heyer. I liked the heroine and the hero - but I felt I could have done with a little more from the hero's side. He was interesting, but nothing of his deeper emotions was revealed. There was a lot of detail in the narrative - but it was difficult to work out what was relevant to the plot and what was not! I could have done with a little less of this and a little more as above! I also was left surprised by the sudden ending. If the author wanted to end the main narrative there, fine. But surely she could then have added a short Epilogue!

Not bad
Usual poor relation attracted to a higher placed man. The author seems to think marriage is the finale without explaining how the hero overcomes his troubles. Wou?d have liked a further chapter at least.

A good read
I did enjoy this book a lovely sweet romance but I felt that it ended far too abruptly so it would have been lovely to have an epilogue.
