I currently have bt broadband and looking to instal virgin media broadband with bt. will this router let me combine both broadband and use as one?

I can't speak from experience but it certainly ought to work as that's what it's intended to do for you. In the Configuration there are options for - 'Link Failover' or 'Load Balance' as well as one called 'Sticky Balance'. If you haven't already done so go to the Linksys site and download their manual, you will get a good idea of what it can do and whether it'll suit you. I quite like my LRT224 so far, only had it for just over a month now - apart, that is, from the limited number of LAN ports. I was "spoiled" by having an RV016 (with its 13 LAN, 2 WAN & 1 DMZ) for quite a few years but there were no similar routers at a decent price point so now I have to use a switch along with the router.

You can select 'Obtain IP address automatically' which should work. I'm assuming IPoE stands for 'IP over Ethernet' (it's not a common term). An easy way to check would be to connect a computer directly to the modem instead of through your current router (unplug the ethernet cable from the router and plug it into the back of the computer). Set the computer to 'Obtain IP automatically' (DHCP). If you can connect to the internet on that computer, it will work.
