In oven probe for accurate real time temperature with OFF/ON switch, audible alarm and AA Battery
My main oven is very old and hasn't been cooking food as well as it used so I bought this probe to find out its real temperature and that oven is almost okay but not quite. Now I know, I can adjust it's own gauge accordingly but I've decided to not because that oven doesn't have an audible alarm, only a light which goes off when the desired temperature has been reached, while this device does. I also bought about five years ago a table top oven with a rotisserie. This is okay but doesn't have a light that tells you when the correct temperature has been reached, as the main oven has. This gauge for that is marvellous. I can set the temperature and when it's been reached an audible alarm sounds and because of that, I've decided to purchase another. You've got to be in the same room to hear it but as I've no intention leaving my home to trek in the Grampian mountains 600 miles from my home while waiting for my oven to reach my desired temperature, that isn't a problem for me. The manufacturer of the table top oven says the maximum temperature can be reached in ten minutes but this device actually takes twenty three minutes to reach its maximum which is not anywhere near the maximum that the manufacturer of that oven claimed so, just for providing that information, it's worth its weight in gold because I've been cooking foods in that table top oven thinking they were being cooked at an adequate temperature when they have not been and I've always wondered why I've had a dicky stomach after any meal I've consumed that was cooked in it, in the past. Now I know why.Reviewer after reviewer has said that you can't turn this device off. I guess they've a different model to the one that was delivered to me because, just like the manufacturer's photo, mine has an ON/OFF switch. I tried this, just to make certain that it worked AND IT DOES. I'm about to order another because I'm going to keep this probe in my main oven all the time and want another for the small table top oven, as I previously mentioned and anyway I think it's really good and at a penny less than £10, I reckon it's a marvel. In the winter my kitchen (just like the rest of my house stays at a constant 17° Celsius. I've lots of gauges throughout my home which prove this information, give or take ½° and when I put this probe in those rooms, the temperature corrects itself to the same values, suggesting that the probe is accurate. When switched off, it resets itself to 150°. For this reason, I'm keeping mine on and will do the same for the new one, when it arrives. Mine didn't come with an included battery but as I intended to use a rechargeable one anyway and the reason I chose this because it takes an AA one,, this exclusion was more of a bonus than something that I would have disapproved of.I'm not the sort of guy that is willing to waste money on getting things sent to me quickly so I chose the free five days Amazon delivery option. This product arrived the day after I had ordered it. Normally, I would complain about this to Amazon. In my book delivering any item ahead of schedule is just as bad as delivering it later than expected but as this was small enough to be posted by the postman through my letterbox, I was happy receiving it on that day. I realise that I am unique in this opinion. Too many Amazon reviewers commend firms that deliver items well ahead of schedule. I will NEVER do that.I'll never use the timer and haven't even checked to see if this works. Very few of the foods I cook take less than an hour to cook, while many take more than five. For this reason, I possess a personal 99 hours timer with an audible alarm which I keep on my belt, constantly.

Instructions say 'never use thermometer in the closed oven' I think they mean display!
The listing for this is minimal and so I used reviews to decide if this was what I needed.I have an oven that is suddenly producing variable cake results and was told by manufacturer as out of warranty to calibrate it myself with an in oven thermometer. So having seen the reviews many said they use this in oven. Some say it broke. But I ordered one and it was not till it came and I needed to use it for a big bake day that I saw the warning on instructions do not use thermometer in closed oven'! I think this a lost in translation issue and what the seller needed to say is do not place display in oven. It seems to be working but there is some discoloration on the joint between wire and probe end.I forgot to mention the on off button is reversed, so just swap them mentally in order to use.See photo of writing that came with it.

Accurate temperature probe.
Good thermometer to ensure that meat is cooked or oven set at the correct temperature. It comes with some sort of clip to secure the the probe to a pan or oven shelf but it doesn’t seem to fit on anything, so I just pushed the probe through a foil tray to hold it in the oven. The switch is back to front so to switch it on you have to switch it off. Not a problem though. I use it regularly.

Broken after just a few uses.
Used this about 4 times - on the 4th attempt, the probe decided that *any* temperature was too high, and now constantly flashes 'HHH' on the display, so it's utterly useless. I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to expect a device to work more than a few times. The seller refuses to replace or refund, as it's outside their 90 day period. Have lodged a claim with Amazon, so we shall see if the UK statutory 2 year guarantee is honoured...When it worked, the magnet on the back is a little weak and the thing slides about. The beeper volume is ok when freestanding, but very quiet when stuck to a surface or lying flat - as the tiny pinhole speaker is on the back and blocked. Bit of a design fail. The on/off switch is tiny, and does not give the impression that it'll last. Actually, it lasted longer than the probe so there's that...

This digital temperature probe is great. I bought it for Yougurt making
This digital temperature probe is great. I bought it for Yogurt making, where the temperature at various stages is very important. It has a useful, but undocumented, feature.Of course you can set a temperature at which the alarm will sound, and sure enough, as the measured temperature sises, the alarm sounds at the correct temperature as expected. However, for Yogurt making, having sterilised the milk at 85 deg C, you now have to allow the milk to cool to about 45 deg C, before you pitch in the live cultures. The useful additional feature is that if you cancel the alarm at 85 deg C, by pressing the up arrow key, then set say 45 deg C as the set temperature, display flashes that the temperature is above the setpoint, but the alarm sounds AGAIN as the temperature falls BELOW 45 deg C, and the flashing stops. This is ideal, becuase the alarm can be used for both the heating AND cooling stages of the process, so you don't have to stare at the temperature when heating AND cooling the mik.The metal clip, to secure the probe inside the liquid, or some such, also works brilliantly. At £9.99 this, in my opinion, is an absolute bargain, and does exactly what I hoped for, even though the specs said nothing about alarming as the temperature falls below the setpoint. Just what I need!

Great little item, cheap and effective.Never overcook a roast again. I leave mine inserted into the thickest part of my roast during cooking, set it 3 or 4 degrees under the perfect temperature and walk away. After resting the meat for 15 minutes or so it'll come up beautifully. The wire doesn't seem massively durable, but as long as you're relatively careful with it, it will be fine. Also great for quick testing internal temperatures of pan fried chicken breasts, sausages and the like.A must-buy for us overly cautious home cooks.
