Perfect size to keep anywhere. The way they designed the trigger makes it almost impossible to spray in the wrong direction. The trigger lock keeps you from spraying accidentally. This gel version is far superior to the spray because you don't have to worry much about wind. It is also more effective as it stick to the target.I have not had to spray anyone so I can't speak about effectiveness but Sabre is a well known brand so I am not worried about that.

Spray quality and no need to twist the cap if need to protect myself from attackers.

The biggest problem is that the bottom can come apart.The bottom is only held on by small plastic clips, which seam to weaken over time. One accidental yank on the pepper spray when the keys get caught on a pocket or something else will result in the bottom coming off. From then on, it's weaker and falls off more often.(I might try super gluing it on to prevent this.)Overall it's a good keyring pepper spray. The finger protection ensures that it never goes off by accident. I've carried this daily for about 3 years now with zero accidental discharges. It's a little bulky, and I do wish they made a smaller one as an option. And the gel is easy to use and aim.

The media could not be loaded. Some things to think about:I really prefer the flip top cap off the “switch style” cap so this unit is superior in my opinion.I wish this had a clip option rather than just the key ring because I prefer pocket carry.This video spray is being shown in the 10-12’ range and I did have to aim up just a bit. I think this product would work best at less 10’ or less.There was a cyclical wind gust and this gel stream did well but still was being blown a little.Compared to other sprays I trialed, this one was easier to see hit the target with the “orange/reddish” color, which I definitely prefer.There is a decent amount of spray time as well. I didn’t go back and time it but there was plenty of spray/gel for pocket or key carry.The size is perfect in my opinion but like I said I would prefer a pocket clip.There are several colors to choose from. The lighter and brighter colors might be easier to find I looking for it quick in a arm rest or pocketbook etc. but I would recommend having it at the ready at all times and/or in high risk situations.I would recommend getting at least a 2 pack to practice with one and keep the other handy. The 3 pack is best. Carry one, put one in the car or next to the bedroom/house, one to trial.Hope this helps, the final ruling is I definitely recommend this Sabre product.

So far I haven't had to use this on hikes. I took another reviewer's advice and used the magnetic quick release from fly fishing gear from this site (Magnetic Keychain Fly Fishing Net Retractor Magnet Clip-$10) and it works great hooked to the waistband of my camelbak.

I have not had to use it, but love this item.
