UPDATED REVIEW / JAN. 16, 2026: New Primal customer service reached out to me and advised that they had been working with some co-manufacturers in 2025, in order to catch-up on orders, which was the cause of the change in texture. These issues have since been resolved, as evidenced by the samples that New Primal sent to me. They are just as delicious as before, and I'm so excited that these will, once again, be a staple in my pantry. Thank you, New Primal! ORIGINAL REVIEW / NOV. 17, 2025: I first started ordering these beef sticks back in Aug 2024 and they remained a staple in our home for nearly a year. I LOVED having a good source of quick and tasty protein at my fingertips. However, when I received my Aug 2025 order, it was immediately apparent that something had changed drastically. The color of the meat inside of the tubing is much lighter than it used to be. The flavor is also much more salty than it used to be. The biggest and worst change of all- the meat is now so soft and 'mushy' that it is difficult to even bite through the outer casing. I am so bummed that these are, essentially, inedible for me at this point. I am not sure what, exactly, changed at the New Primal factory, but I'm so disappointed by it!

Great taste, as a better alternative to the original Slim Jim from the 1980s. For me it has more fat and texture too soft, but if that's what you like, then it worth the purchase. I personally like more meat and a firmer texture.

These are a great snack/source of protein. Pure beef! No sugar or additives!

I have been ordering these meat sticks for about 4 years. Unfortunately the quality has become very inconsistent to the point where I usually have to throw one or two out due to spoilage. Also the texture can sometimes be very mushy which was never the case previously. I've tried to stick with these guys hoping it would get better because when prepared and packaged correctly these are the best meat sticks on the market.

Update: Available again on Subscribe and Save, and still amazing! Very satisfying when a sit-down meal just isn't an option. We use these when traveling by car instead of stopping somewhere for lunch. Saves the cost and time of a restaurant stop and needs only some cheese, apple slices, and nuts for a filling meal. A healthy and delicious staple in our snack cupboard! While I'm sad that these no longer have a subscribe and save option, they're so delicious that I'll continue to purchase them. These beef sticks are absolutely perfect for snacks on the go (we use them on our long-distance bike rides and as snacks when out and about), and it's wonderful that we're not consuming sugar or preservatives with our snack. Very filling and tasty! Not too spicy (but I love spicy foods so may not be the best judge). Convenient, delicious, and healthy!

If you get a good batch, these are the best tasting clean beef sticks on the market hands down. However, there seems to be a major consistency issue. I’ve ordered a 20 pack of the spicy beef several times and received a great batch that was eaten in 2-3 days. The last few orders were either very dry and the beef sticks looked much lighter in color, or they were much greasier than normal. My most recent order was not edible. One bite and I spit it in the trash. Figured it was a one-off. Then we opened two more beef sticks and they were very moldy. The rest of the pack is going in the trash. I purchased individual sticks from Whole Foods last year with no issues but the product has been scarce at my WF in 2025 and those I have purchased, have been greasier than before. If I reviewed this product the first time I bought it, I would have given it 5 stars but there is no consistency so that is the reason for 3 stars. I don’t know if they changed manufacturers or suppliers or what - but I won’t be purchasing them through Amazon again. I did just reach out to the company to request a refund. I hope they fix whatever it is that is resulting in an inconsistent product because as I said above, when they are good, they are really, really good.
