To get 1920x1200 resolution through VGA requires a good quality cable even if you are just using plain VGA. I figured with the DVI-D active adapter that an integrated cable would be more stable and reliable than using an adapter dongle and adding a VGA cable to that. The flat ribbon cable looked more solid to me than the round cable version of this adapter. Also the reviews on the round cable adapter were more mixed than the flat cable, though the round version did have more reviews. I'm happy with the result. My monitor has both VGA and HDMI input but I can only get 1920x1080 resolution through HDMI. With this active adapter cable I am getting the full 1920x1200 resolution with a solid clean display. No problems at all with the video.

From a pc with DVI-D output to a widescreen TV VGA input. Needed to free up an HDMI port for VR gaming .1920x1080 resolution and seems to be just fine. Cord could be a little heavier duty.

I was using a 27 inch 720 TV as a monitor, when I decided to upgrade to something that had 1080p. I didn't like the $500 pricetag on actual computer monitors (everything was 24inch and then 27+ inch were all $500+) so I decided to go with another TV, this one a 32inch 1080p TV. Hooked up the HDMI and man did it look absolutely TERRIBLE. I fiddled and fiddled and fiddled with settings, and could not get the thing to look very good at all whatsoever. If like me you are trying to eke out a few more years of useful life from an older PC by updating to Windows 10 and buying an older PCI-e GPU but find you need a DVI-D to VGA cable now, this is the one to buy. My father's, by now, ancient HP DC7800 sff PC had always been running straight VGA from the on-board graphics to his Samsung monitor but when I decided to add a discrete 2GB GPU to the one free PCI-e slot, all that was available to port out was DVI-D and HDMI. His monitor featured HDMI and VGA but the HDMI was currently used by an Xbox 360. This cable worked like a charm to take DVI-D from the GPU to VGA on the monitor. Let me capitalize the following sentence so there is no confusion. THIS CABLE WILL NOT WORK IN REVERSE (VGA on the GPU to DVI-D on the monitor). As long as you understand what this cable is for it should suit your needs like it did mine.

Had to get replacement from Amazon because the first cord did not work, replacement did work okay, but a huge hassle to have to wait for the replacement.

I bought a new Windows 10 desktop computer to replace Windows 7. My monitor is a Vizio monitor/TV. The picture was great with the old computer using VGA from computer to VGA on monitor. The new computer does not have VGA but has HDMI and DVI. I connected the new computer using HDMI to the HDMI on the Vizio. The picture was horrible. I read that VGA or HDMI picture quality should be the same, but it wasn't. I searched for video driver updates, there were none. I decided in desperation to buy the DVI to VGA cable and I'm so glad I did. I gives me a great picture! I was ready to return the new computer. I highly recommend this cable.
